If I remember correctly, I think you just need to pull the exhaust, You'll see the main wiring harness pluged in the the left(?) front corner of the sled. Unplug and tie (VERY IMPORTANT) a string to it (to pull it back under the engine when you're done). Loosen/pry up the "wire hold downs" on the belly pan and pull the wire backwards toward the oil injection fill bottle. Once you pull it through you'll see where some of the outer casing worn and wire casing worn through and some bare wires that were grounding out on the belly pan. Wrap EACH wire with some GOOD tape (scotch 33+) and then wrap the whole casing. Then pull that plastic wire loom over the whole works and pull the string while you feed the wire back through. Your problems will be solved.
can i still drive it with the wiring issue or no? thanks guys whats the procedure for the wiring harness fix?

I wouldn't. Heck it only takes 30 minutes tops to fix it.

I also had these same symptoms last year. Went through harness, wires under tank and seat, wiring around handlebars, and wiring by cdi...all good. Stator cured the problem.
going to look at it today if it is the stator whats the cheapest place to buy one?

no rub thru it was only idling at 1300 so adjusted idle speed to 1800 and it does not do it with the brake anymore but will do it the first time switching from high beams to low beams or vise versa but i started it this morning and it backfired twice anyone know why?

I'm having the same problem. Sounds like Yamaha built a proverbial rubber band into these stators. Please keep me up to date on your progress and I will dot he same. My thread is here: http://www.totallyamaha.net/forums/showthread.php?t=57116

FYI - figured out how to test the stator if you are still diagnosing.

Take your breather box off, I had to wire that all up last year because it was rubbing on the steering column..if your sitting on the sled its on the right hand side below the carb rack is where your problem is..look all those wires over closely.
