I blew mine up at around 1800 miles. Had it rebuilt and a little extras done to it when it was all apart. Run great after that. Sold it with 4000 miles on it.

yep i 've been saying that for a wile now,to damn lean from the factory..lennstang said:My 02 with 4700 miles, lost the center lower con rod bearing and both crank bearings next to it. Bruce from CB Performance rebuilt my crank and advised me to turn up the oil when I re-assemble the engine. He claims all the 02's were too lean(oil) from the factory.

were the 03's jetted different, or the oil pump settings actually different?
Someone correct me if I am wrong, but isn't 2002 the only year the Viper did not have the rear heat exchanger? Or is that just for the Mtn viper that has it?

I don't think they EVER had rear exchangers.....

I don't think so either!! My 03 don't but it's gonna have one soon!! Looking for one from an SRX to put on it. Never had cooling issues though (light has never came on). -Ed

I have 2 03 vipers, should I change my stock setting or leave it alone? Not sure if 03's had a problem with lean condition.

maintain them, just make sure you clean the carbs and keep things working good and as they should. clean the pv's etc. I still think good maint is really all it takes. and some luck, as sometimes shit happens

i have an 02 with 5900 miles runs great, no problems. always ran yamalube, and have done proper maintenance. Theres quite a few people around here with 02 vipers who have anywhere from 9000-13000miles on them and have no motor problems yet...
Well I was looking on the microfiche and there is one listed but only for 03 and later hence my question hehe...
I have had 2-02 Vipers go down with bad mag side connecting rod bearings. One with 2200 miles 3 years ago and the other with 7500 miles this past weekend. Both with no warning while cruising. Always run premium fuel and Klotz.....

The orignal motor in my Viper had 23 000 kms or 14000 or so miles on it with the original crank now blown pistons. I only rebuilt the top end last year, and it needed it, and replaced the crank seals this year and she keeps runnin strong.
Must have been made by Timex,,,I give it a lickin and it keeps on tickin
