Electrical Problem - Tach Resets???

No one probably cares at this point, but I finished testing the stator tonight and my 1800RPM reading were 15.2v, 15.0v, & 1.0v. My 3000RPM reading were 16.2v, 16.0v, & 1.0v. Spec is 17-18v @ both RPM ranges.

Anyway, going to rush order the new one tomorrow. Not sure when I'll have time to install it, but I will update this post for closure purposes.

Did the new stator work? I have the exact same issue! to the T. I was just really hoping it wasn't the stator.
What causes the stator to go bad?
the only thing I have extra is sheild hooked up? all bulbs are stock. I almost think my problem is in the hi/lo switch. I would think the DCS would start showing that there is a problem if its the stator. But it doesn't. (04 viper-s) please post results of your new stator or IM me thanks.

Haven't even placed the order for it yet (will be in about 5 min), so I'm not going to know if it fixes my problem until end of next week. Other priorities unfortunately. Plus the machine is still runable, just can't have both warmers and the hi beam on all at once.

ok thanks. I know My viper is my back up and my wife rides it occasionally. We still ride it but worry it is going to give up when we are 60 miles from the nearest rode LOL. Thanks again

Well I finally got the new stator in last Friday and YES it was the problem. For the rest of you out there I won't say they are flawed, but I think they are starting to go and Yamaha has a new part number which means they have updated something.

How exactly did you test each wire? 1 Volt meter lead to the wire and 1 to ground?

This sucks, getting 2.5ish on two and 1 ish on one. Thats while my my light was bright and gauge working. :o|
Cant rule out a rub through now either. I got the light to fluxuate by moving the wiring harness once, but cant seem to duplicate it. Maybe it was just a coincedence.arrrrrh!

Volts? At what RPM, that is really low.

I started having the same trouble for the first time in 6800 miles but it cleared up after 10 minutes or so. My question is if it is the stator then why is the problem intermittent?

How did you test this? Did you run one lead to the frame and the positive to the white wires?

I am trying to test mine out...thanks

i had the same problem on the way last weekend , so i un hooked one headlight and ran one on high beam, beter than two dim ones... anyone know the part number?

I guess you missed it.

No. Wire 1 to wire 2, then wire 2 to wire 3, then wire 3 to wire 1.

Sorry to revive a dead thres, i have a 02 SX Viper, and im having the EXACT troubles, i have one headlight plugged in, no warmers perfect, two lights, dim, i have just the gauge pod hooked up, perfect, the engine runs, i guess its the stator too, no rub thrus, gonna have to order one :'( LOL
