Well i just got back from a snowmobile trip to crivitz... The scenario this weekend was the same as this same weekend LAST january.... It was a bitterly cold night when we pulled the sleds off the trailer... I mean you needed two guys to pull these sleds off the tilt bed thats how frozen they were. My sled started fine and ran fine, but noticed that my speedo isn't working again! it happened last year on the frist day, and i unloaded it at night and it was easily 5 below 0 deg. F speedo broke then too.

I just think its funny how it happened on the same trip both years.... Is the cold weather to blame for this or am i lookin at possible bearing problems? i have no other signs that the bearing is taking a poo. i got about 150 unlogged miles, which irritated me.

Also- My buddy has a 99srx700 and his sled starts up no matter how cold it is (15+ pulls if its below 10 deg)... But with mine if its below 10 degrees it takes dozens of pulls to get any sign of life out of it (01 srx) so what i do everytime is just pour gas in the cyls and it fires right up and stays running and runs perfect all day.... I do have a rub thru under the motor, because my tach flickers and the motor burps when i hit the high beams... Could the Ground from the rub thru be causing a hard start or am i looking at fuel pump problems? carbs were inspected and cleaned and reinspected after i found out it starts hard... Choke is adjusted right.

Not sure if the cold could do it, but on one cold day I got my viper started but the guages weren't on... after a few mins at idle, they came on... odd!

I'm goin to get a new fuel pump and see if that helps with my cold start issues.... Sled starts in 2 pulls if its in a heated garage and it sits over night... if its out side over night its a dog to start... need to pour gas in the cyls.

I had the same issues running in real cold this year. I replaced the little key and have had no more problems with the speedo......I was running in the water the day before and i think i froze it! Checked the bearing and everything is fine! I will be interested in the fuel pump, to see if it makes a difference, mine takes a couple extra pulls when cold also!!!15-20 Been fighting that for a while now!!! Keep us posted!!!

yea will do, got her ordered its backordered from yamaha, should be here in about 3 weeks.... 75 dollars later.

My 2001 SRX take a while to start when cold temps. Takes 3 - 4 pulls if sitting for over 1/2 hour after riding it in cold temps. Cold temps meaning around - 10 to minus - 15 Celcius. Seems to be a very common thing on SRX. Maybe that is the reason for the heated carbs :)

I bought the SRX at the begining of this season, 2009, and the hard starts got me kinda worried, don't want the thing starving for fuel and going lean. Would be cool if all it would take is a new fuel pump to fix.

Maybe replace the fuel filter on it though.

they say its the nature of the beast, but my buddies WILL start up, not matter how cold it is, just takes 15-20 pulls, i don't even bother pulling that much anymore, just get hte rubber hose out and get some gas in the cyls manually. Bam shes runnin!

I wanna get a primer bulb for this thing, wonder if thats possible

It`s the nature of the beast. Mine takes alot of pulling when its cold before it will come to life. Seems to me the feul pump or carbs must drain back through to cause this problem. Another reason i wish yamaha would put feul shutoffs on their sleds. A primer bulb should work good as long as you dont flood it. That was always the problem with the doo`s back in the day with the primers...very easy to flood.

Yea my one of my buddies has a formula 583, and that thing is too easy to flood.

Do they make primer bulbs for an srx? or is it a custom thing? seems neccisary.

I'm hopin a new fuel "pulse" pump will fix the problem to where it will at least start after quite a few pulls... my carbs have been cleaned and checked twice. and if i had a carb problem i'd notice some type of bog or something like that, but it runs very smooth.... once i get her goin. plugs are cardboard brown on all three cyls.

my 01 srx is also real hard to start after its been sittin overnite in the cold, it also seems harder to pull at first then gets easier after 3-4 pulls, ii notice it does start easier if i kill it with the choke instead of the button

Yep, If you choke it, it will start easier.... Cause your loading the carbs with fuel, i however, have had not tried that yet, well once, and it started second pull sittin over night, but then it died. Then i had to add fuel.... Maybe my oil pump is rich? Cause i notice my buddy goes thru less oil then me, (not much less) and his always starts. maybe its gettin too much oil at start up??
