going down the trail today cranking on it and just as i rolled on the throttle it felt like the belt broke, so i pulled over and lifted the hood. The belt is fine, the primary and secondary clutches work well. the secondary spins the shaft but doesnt spin the track. the only possibilities are a broken chain? broken gears? or a broken shaft. I think that its the chain, any ideas? and does anyone have one?

if it was the chain,I would think your chaincase should have a chunk missing or all of it blown to bits and oil everywhere.I had a chain that grenaded back in the late 70's on a new sled.Exactly like you said and I was just starting to pin it..all of a sudden nothin...motor revs up and I thinks I blew the belt.Open the hood and oil everywhere and pieces.It was on warranty anyways,but I still needed a tow home for 3 miles.

sounds funny but happened to me...check the chain tensioner bolt
Did it back out by chance?
I had an issue like that couple weeks ago, forgot to tighten it down, backed it way right out, dropped to belly...oil loss and no tension on chain...

TAKE YOUR CHAINCASE APART. FAST!!!!. YOU WOULD OF TAK,IN OUT YOUR CASE IF CHAIN LET GO. AND USUALLY YOU CAN HERE IT WHEN IT NEEDS TO BE ADJUSTED. DOUBT YOU HURT GEARS. 3:16 (yammie tony)

I bet the bolt that holds the lower gear on broke and then took everthing with it.

I have broken 2 of those damn bolts that hold the lower gear on. What causes them to keep breaking?
not the tension bolt, it backed out on me a month ago and i tightened it down, when i tightened it down, the chain was half off and caused grooves in gears. I fixed it and thought that it would work. thats y the chain broke, it was worn on one side

My upper nut came loose and pushed the jackshaft to the left of the machine, when that happened the gear on top was riding on the threads on the end. There was no abnormal noise or a loud bang. I just ordered a new shaft
