It won't start by E start, or by pull start?

Our 97 venture 600 does nothing when you hit the e start when it is brought out from the shed for the first time in the weekend. After it runs a while, it will turn right over with the key.

Is this your same issue?

no it will roll over and over and over on the e start but will not kick have to prime the cylinders through plug holes only when cold (overnight) tryed pull cord too..... same!!

Carbs were just cleaned again no dirt ,temp here in winter -10 to-30c does not seem to make much difference, just doesnt start good cold and I always use gasline antifreeze!!

If the idle RPM setting is too high or if you hold the throttle open when cranking, it may not start well.
What is your starting procedure?
Was it always this way? What is the history?

I bought the sled last year for my wife and it was in the guys warm garage started right up, he had it warmed up the SOB , brought it home approx 2 hr drive on trailer when I went to start it so she could take it for a spin, no start, had to prime the engine then it fired up and thats the way its been ever since if it sits and gets cold your done, starting procedure when cold, full choke and e-start and oh ya and then prime it... lol but I will add the idle is up a little now that you mention it!!

The idle speed spec is on the maintenance sticker under the hood.

I assume you are leaving it on full choke when cranking.
Other causes could be-
Scored pistons- would have low compression.
A reed leakage problem.
Intake air leak - that could also cause a high idle speed.

Watch the plunger shafts on the carbs while moving the choke lever to make sure they are moving right.

Id had a similar problem with my sx700. I changed the fuel filter and and fuel pump and it took care of the prob.

I had the same problem with my 97 600sx. Pull Start but same issue. Check the oil pump adjustment, Clean Carbs. I also Full choke before shut down. Now I never pull more then 3 times.

So, you put your choke to full on and than shut it down? Do you let it run till it dies, or just kill it?

Normally I will kill it onece I hear the change in idle. But some times it Dies fiarly quick.
