Hello,

a couple days ego my sxr700 seized on me just like that going real slow; id say about 15-20 mph.

didnt see any warning lights on the dash, i think. and never had the light blink at start up 3x, as I have found out it should by reading on this forum, so i didnt even know if it did came on!

anyways, here is the break down;

recoil was jamed, seized so i opend the hood, and was able to turn the crankshaft using my hand back and forth. atleast the crank wasnt seized and that was good enough for me to call it a night!

today i got the sled inside so i can work on it abit;

took of spark plugs and all 3 were dark black and center electrode was white at the tip.
took of bender triple pipes and was able to see piston damage on mag & ctr cylinders, but more on the mag side cause it gets more heat i assume and the rings looked shot. so basically its a scar on the exhaust side like you normaly see from shot rings.

will take everything apart tomorrow and see what exactly is damaged.
maybe i can get away with piston/rings and hone job on cylinders.

but main concern i have is why this happened, as this is not my first 2stroke rebuild! i dont want to do any extra this year :)

and would like to hear some main points to go thru and atleast test or inspect so that i get this right the first time!

oh one more detail, a friend of mine put almost full tank of 87 octane gas that day before riding!, this was second run this season, and sled was working great everytime before...

thank you all!

Bender triple pipes
Full Bender Clutches

the rest is just usual cosmetic stuff

P.S.

Would be really nice if someone can share a service manual so i can look up a couple specs for this 2000 sxr700 rebuild...

thanks!

Premium only on a piped sx-r, I would imagine thats your problem.I've heard that even sometimes some stall premium get bite ya.

I have the Yamaha service manual that covers that motor. I can scan lots of pages for you just let me know what you want.

I do not believe you can hone those cylinders. I just had to have one of my 500 pistons redone. I seized it on a lean condition due to a clogged jet.

that would be really nice of you!

I really only need all the specs on the engine,crank,clutches and carbs.
maybe some pics of assemble/disassemble for above parts.
you can post them up here or pm me and we can do it via email.

thanks alot for taking the time!

Please explain the flashing light. I was just discussing with my buds, that I've never seen my temp light come on... ever. How can I test to see if the circuit is even working???

first find out why it went down and yes you can hone a cylinder just be careful not to take so much out you can clean aluimim piston that is skuffed on cylinder by putting muriatic acid on a qtip and letting it soak to remove piston particials then hone it

by reading the manual from a simular sled,
I have found out that our sleds have warning lights aswell as warning blinking, witch lets you diagnose the problem by the number of blinks!

also, when you first start your sled, the light should blink 3 times, letting you know that warning system and sensor is working fine!

its same as in your car, when you first start it will check your airbag,abs etc..

if anyone have more to this, please post everything you know !!

thanks again...

I believe this is only good for the '01 up sleds and '00-up SRX as they have the newer stator and 3D ignition mapping (motors with TPS sensors) along with the coils that fire one cylinder at a time and not all 3 at once.

You also need to get into the carbs to make sure they're clean. I'm pretty sure the SxR sleds don't have any DCS system so the only lights that would show on the dash would be the overheat and TORS (well the high beam as well but we really don't care about that one right now, do we).

Some pics would be helpful. Shot me another PM and i can try sending you my 2000 manual. Would be better if you had MSN though.

i like the sound of CHA CHING, but not when i'm spending it :)

thanks for any ideas all is greatly appreciated!

I will take pictures of everything as I go along, I always do!
I've done a few rebuilds on jetskis and quad.

P.S.
so no one knows of what material this cylinders are made of ??

thanks!

The cylinders are made of aluminum and should be a boron coated bore similar to all of the rest of the 90's-up motors, not a sleeve. Hopefully the aluminum from your piston is not stuck too badly in the bore and peels/scrapes off easy for an easy fix for you.

i also thought that they are aluminum!

thanks man...

update;

had some time tonight and took everything apart,
lucky for me its not too bad, crank is not seized and looks fine without any damage or shavings!

lets start with the head; came of easy, looks perfect; didnt get damaged and doesnt look like squish was changed to raise the compression.
2 layer metal gasket, looks reusable?? and in perfect condition to the eye.

all 3 spark plugs are dark black with only abit of brown in them and the center electrode has white on the edge!
