My motor just blew on the weekend. The mag. side piston blew and upon further investigation found that it was in really bad shape on the exhaust side suggesting that it was quite lean. Further investigation shows that the oil cable bracket had broken right off and the oil cable was flopping around freely. This looks like the source of my meltdown as it probably wasn't getting enough oil. Any other thoughts or suggestion I should look at?? The motor only has about 3000 miles on it.
I am having trouble getting the wrist pin out. I have pressed these out before with my thumb and this time can't budge it with channel locks and socket. Any home made suggestions here??
The kicker is you can't just buy the oil cable bracket you have to buy the whole oil pump. Oh well my wrenches were getting lonely so they will be happy to see me.

If it got that hot and didn't have any oil you are going to need to rebuild it from the bottom up. If not you are going to run into problems down the road. Not sure what your intention was.
Suggestion for the wrist pin is to lean it in the connecting rod and have the shop that rebuilds the crank remove it.
Check your cases to make sure you didn't damage them too.

if you really need to get it out, heat the pistion around it with a propane torch. This will cause the piston to expand and release the wristpin.

yes thanks lads....I pulled it all apart last night......crank looks good and I never found any debree after flushing the crank.....a guy from a machin shop close to me who rebuilds cranks told me to continue flushing the base of the crank rod beneath the blown cylinder with a very thin oil, like hydrolic oil or something. Said that you can have problems down the road if you don't.
Other than that she is going back together and I have another Viper motor for sale.

Yikes
Ill be very surprised if that thing lasts 1 good ride, but for your sake I hope it does. Im positive there is damage to the rod/crank you cant see but I watch other ppl win the lotto all the time so maybe its just my luck....

Easy..
Think about it, if there is crap ie..shavings, pieces in the bottom its not like the rod bearings arent exposed to all this stuff, but you said it was clean. Maybe most was sucked out during the time it was running. If you had it tore down why not press it apart..Ive yet to meet a man that can measure to .002 with xray vision. A melt down is not 'normal operating' case and this put a higher load on the rod, bearing and crank. Hey it aint my sled you do and listen to whomever you want.
Im sure that tech with the information he had made a good assumption, but Ill bet he'll not give you a money back guarntee...Im sure there were a mix of words he used like should, probably, might be okay blah blah.
I hope for your sake you have good luck...

I think u read my post while I was editing because I was clear on what u said. I wont say "told you so" because given ur situation I might have followed the same course of action.

Oh right sorry

I agree nothing better than beer and hockey.

Sounds like fun, i'm just waiting on some pistons yet, and i'll be doing the same!
