i want to adjust my oil cable so it burns 1 letre per tank! around 45:1 ratio. can anyone tell me how much to measure on the free play of the cable?

It's on the 5th page of this thread on one of Damans' posts

Just run sythetic and use stock cable setting!
Run sythetic oil and use stock setting and you will be fine. Don't want to turn it up to much or you will be lean on fuel. I have been running stock gap and sythetic oil. Approaching 9000 miles and engine is still perfect :-)

Yeah, that link/thread is for adjusting to stock specs.

so i want to burn 1 qt every tank. does can anyone tell me about how many miles i should go on a qt.

You would want to adjust your oil consumption per gallons of fuel burned, not miles traveled. I believe it is Daman that has a post on what ratios to be at. I believe he is recommending around 42:1 ratio for the triples.

this is for a 12 gal tankcraigjschr said:so i want to burn 1 qt every tank. does can anyone tell me about how many miles i should go on a qt.
1 gal = 128 oz. 1 qt = 32 oz.
12 gal = 1536 oz
If you want 50:1, then 1536/50 = 31. You should burn 31 oz of oil per 1536 oz (12 gal) of gas.
31/32 = .9 -- 31 oz = 90% of a quart.
If you burn exactly 1 quart of oil per tank of gas, you're running 48:1 fuel ratio. (1536/32 = 48 ) 48:1
in a viper i would stick to 45-48:1 in that area, hearing allot bearing problems this year as the viper ages gets older and more miles.1 qt to 12 galls is right on.oil is cheaper then a crank.
when figuring oil ratio fill up oil and gas go for a good ride when done retop
oil and gas keeping track of how much you put in then do the math and get
the ratio,,then adjust oil pump free play keep doing this till you get your desired ratio. you need gallons and oz's of oil not miles ridden.
Don't forget that the ratio changes with throttle position. It starts out with less oil at idle and then increases to full mixture rate somewhere in the midrange where it stays through WOT. The cable adjustment simply adjusts where this ramp up occurs. The adjustment does not change the full rate mixture, but using thinner oil can. In 02 the pump used on the Viper was recalibrated to use less oil.
So, oil consumption can vary depending on throttle position. Thus it is very difficult to compare one test with another unless the throttle position was kept the same.
Side Note: There is a natural oil leaning effect of thicker oils as flow rates increase (gas flows easier than thick oil). Some synthetics are quite thin even at low temps and virtually eliminate this.

Your Right.....but thats still gives a good overall average ratio.

what is the best synthetic oil to use

well don't know about best but Amsoil(interceptor),KLOTZ,etc. are great oils. try a search lots of posts on this..

My 03 Viper only goes through 1/2 quart of oil per tank of gas. Never touched the cable and it has about 3500kms on it. I'm usuing Amsoil Interceptor oil. Is this normal??

It really depends on how you ride, like Ding said. I've rode 50 miles and hardly used any because it was hard snow and didn't need to open it up much when riding. Other times in tons of soft powder, I'll use almost half the oil tank because I did a lot of wfo riding hillclimbing and boondocking. Mine is set pretty rich at 21mm, using yamahalube. Like was said above, I'd rather go through extra oil than worry about a crank.

thats 96:1 over all to lean IMO.....gas is still going through the engine wether it's working hard or not and that gas needs oil.mikerx said:My 03 Viper only goes through 1/2 quart of oil per tank of gas. 100:1 is fine at low throttle positions.

When I checked the cable last night it was closed tight (no gap) on the 03 Viper. The guy I bought it off said he didnt touch a thing and every thing was bone stock. I opened it up abit and went about 100 kms and used about 1/2 a quart. I can gt 200 kms from a tank of gas no matter how i ride it. So I'm on track for about a quart a tank which I'm comfortable with. I'd rather it run richer and extend the life of the motor rather than run lean, go as fast as possible and have the motor burn out premature. And by the sounds of it, alot of guys are burning up motors this year supposedly from bad gas.

You have to pull the cable apart until it stops to check the gap, the spring holds it closed, otherwise you'd be oiling full-bore all the time...

Ok so i rode 100km used 25 liters to fill up and 700ml of oil - what is my mixture and how do you calculate it
35.7:1 by my math. 25L divided by .7L= 35.714285714285714285714285714286

thats what i did just seemed a lil rich
