Once i get a look at my pistons... (burnt all 3 at once) im gona see whats the news n what cause it... if its due to low octane.. im going to need to put in a additive since the highest octane i can get is 91 around here.. im already gona change my jet specs to the 01..
what kind of additive do i need to add?... theres alchohal and then theres the oxygenated one at my mechs... which one will do if i need to use it..

You want octane booster, not alcohol. Alcohol is probably the cause of the problem. Adding more isn't going to help the situation.Ride.Race.Live said:Once i get a look at my pistons... lol, you are right. Sorry, I've got a Viper and forget some times.motodave289 said:There is no headgasket to remove layers from, has orings.

its called octane booster but.. he has different kinds.. one is oxyginated and one is alchohal...
Unless i go to Crapy tire and get a bottle of one of their bottles... just wondering if any one is using something like that to prevent detonation..

To me it looks like a lean burn and then a heat related detonation problem, especially if the other pistons look fine.
Just go to CTC and get some of the 104+ boost.Ride.Race.Live said:its called octane booster but.. he has different kinds.. one is oxyginated and one is alchohal...

NOSBOY I'm sure will correct me if I am wrong, but "oxyginated" means they are adding alcohol.

LOVE TO BE IN THE YAMAHA PISTON BUSINESS. 3:16 (yammie tony)
i had the same problem last year so i take some compression off but i still didnt lean the sled cause i"m worried a little lollll...make sure those heads are set correctly for those cylinder

This is a stock sled with stock heads and jetting. The temps that night were down to -27 Celcius so it was a good night for a lean condition anyhow. Once I get some pics of the other cylinders I'll post some pictures. I always feel so bad when and old sled on mine lets a new owner down.
-27... where the carb heaters on? Bet one got some ice build up and leaned out.

No they were not on so that's kind of what we are leaning to as the problem. I'm waiting for some pictures of the other 2 pistons so I can compare. If they look fine then its probobaly a lean issue not related to the temp. If the others look lean then its more than likely related to the temp and he'll have to up his jetting and/or fuel quality. Will the carb heaters help somewhat with lean conditions? Will they warm the air entering the carb somewhat to offset cold temps?
its just lean raised that jetting been there done that

I go to my local small airport and get 100+ octane fuel (100 low lead avgas. Its octane is between 100 and 130 with 1.5 ml of lead per gallon). Its a little more expensive than gasoline for your car but burns clean and hot without any additives. When you get avgas on your hands it evaporates clean like a solvent, unlike mogas that evaporates and leaves an oily spot. If you're looking for high octane gas give AV Gas a shot. Its probably cheaper than adding all of the chemicals to super unleaded.
