so i was looking around for a sled and i found a 98 yamaha srx 700 triple for sale for 2000 all stock and in good shape just rebuilt 1000 miles ago will i be impressed with performance and are they good sleds it has a brand new predator 1' track w/ 144 studs how will it be in comparison to my piped clutched jetted viper w/ v force reeds? thanks guys

im not sure where you are located but im pretty sure you would be able to find a better deal....but to answer your question yes therea good sled as long as the crank has been updated.

I had a 98 and loved it. Never had any problems with it at all. Ths suspension isin't the greatest in the rough but the handling and power delivery on a nice goomed trail is unmatched. Like srxbully said, make sure the crank update was done. They are the same chassis as a Viper but have less travel in the suspesnion. A piped viper may have has much or more power but a stock SRX is good on fuel. I was getting around 15mpg on mine.

I say ride the sled first if you can swing it.2 grand is alot how many miles would there be for it to need a rebuild.

well im going tot rade my 98 arctic cat zr 500 and 200 hundred dollars for it you think its a good idea?

Jump all over that as long as the srx is not a headache. NO comparison as far as quality. I owned one cat for a year and have owned my srx 5 years. Yamaha makes quality products.

yeah thats worth the trade either way.crank done or not..but it wont compare to your piped viper..& how the hell did you (jaydaniels) ever get near 15 mpg??did you take 2 plug caps off or something? :letitsnow

I was driving down hill a lot!! Taking 2 plug caps off would make the sled harder on fuel wouldn't it?? I mean its difficult to keep that piston from sucking in fuel when its still moving up and down. I'm in Canada as well where 15mpg would be equal to about 12.5mpg US. Anyhow, sorry if my calculations where maybe incorrect but I'm just trying to paint the picture that SRX's are pretty decent on fuel. Much better than a ZR or MXZ from around the same year.

you are correct..but i dont want him getting upset at us when he see's no where near 15mpg..there decent for a ho triple but a four stroke they are not when it comes to mpg.

If i'm takin it easy on the trails, which is rare, i see about 11-12 mpg.

Yamaha will not honor the crank updates anymore, but you can check to see if it has been done with the VIN.
