Just bought a 2000 srx at the end of last season. I noticed a slight vibration in handlebars. This season I just pulled it out of storage and got it ready and noticed the vibration again. It's most noticeable when the sled is NOT moving. It seems to be a center somewhere around 2.500 rpm. Once the it revs past 3.500 the vibration is gone. It doesn't vibrate bad enough to numb the hands, it's slight and maybe only in a 1000 - 1500 rpm range. The thing engages at 4.500 rpm. I took the clutch off and did a visual, it checked out ok. I ran the engine slightly with the clutch off and the engine wanted to vibrate the sled to pieces. Motor mounts look good. Could this be a crank bearing or am I just chasing a ghost? I know that an engine will vibrate some when it's run no load with the clutch off.

What are the symptoms of bad crankshaft bearings??

I'm having a lot of drama with my blown 600 and don't need to blow another engine. So maybe I'm just being over cautious?

The symptoms are what you just described. My 2000 SRX did the same and I ripped it apart and found that the lower rod bearing on the mag side was bad. So needless to say my crank went to the rebuilders. And it is presently being trued and rebuilt.

If this is true then my week went from really bad to worse. I was hoping that I was just being overcautious.

MY 2000 DOSE THAT VERY SLIGHTLY. REV UP SLIGHTLY GETS SMOOTH. I HAD NO ISSUES WITH THIS SLED AND ITS BEEN RACED HARD. I,LL WATCH IT BUT I AM NOT READY TO PULL CRANK OUT. 3:16 (yammie tony)

If you have a dial indicator check the crank run out with the primary clutch off. I do not know the tolerence but I bet one these guys around here does. My 00 has a vibration that I am chasing too, I suspect a jack shaft or drive axle bearing. Mine does not act like yours does, mine is a pretty constant slight vibration through out the rpm range. Sometimes I think its just in my head and I should ride it and have fun.

I've got a three day trip this weekend. I'm going to look over the srx again tomorrow night. I'll keep an eye on it and post back if I find anything.

My srx vibrates at idle, thats alot of motor movin. Its not a bad vib. its a little intense when its just started, but when shes warm shes purrin.

both my srx's vibrated the same so i never worried about.it wasnt bad but i used to notice it by the ski tip vibrating at idle..touch the trottle a very little bit & the tip would stop vibrating..i wouldnt worry about it.i think your being over cautious.

Yep, ski tip vibrates, and i think i gotta loose rivit down by the footwell, i hear a squeak when i first start it up, but it goes away after some riding, just because the vibs get less when its warm.

Back from ride

Well I'm back from my weekend ride with the Srx. We rode from Oshkosh to Door County and back. Very nice ride. 453 miles, a little less than we anticipated but still a nice ride. A very cold ride.

She has a slight vibration from 2500 - 3500 rpm. Very slight. It also has a vibration right at 6000 rpms. Right at 6,000 rpm It seems to vibrate similar to how my '99 Vmax 500 would. So I'm guessing that's normal.

I can't say that I'm too concerned about it. I think my concern stems from the fact that this is the first use sled I've bought in about ten years. It has about 6.000 miles and I hate not knowing all the little quirks of a sled. Plus the previous owner swapped out a bunch of parts.

I did have to crank up the oil injection more. I set it at 19mm when I left but she still only used just shy of a quart to 200 miles, so I re-adjusted it to about 15 mm. It uses just shy of a quart to 12 gallons now.
