in the northwoods of WI last week and it was cold! rode 377 miles and used 1.25 quart. at that rate, i could go about 1000 miles without adding oil.
stock '04 viper, stock oil cable setting.

wow lean thats like 96:1 if my math is on..surprised it's still running.Thumper1 said:went up with full tank, filled up twice and have about 1/2 tank left.....so roughly 30 gallons.
1.25qts=40oz's to 30 gals of gas=96:1
rule of thumb is around 1qt to 1 1/4qt to a tank(12gals)of gas

if those numbers are accurate, may not run for too much longer... richen oil mixture asap... and carefully keep track of fuel used, as well as oil used... miles traveled means little since driving conditions constantly change.... tj

Yes that is 12.5 mpg. I beleive you should have used 3.6 qt. Adjust your cable asap.

I can't believe all these threads with Vipers lean on oil lately! Mine was the same way-- Here's a thread with the cable settings on Damans post

Wonder if it's from the cable stretching out after time?

Do the cables stretch? Is this only on the Vipers? On my 700 SX use less oil than wifes 600 DLX SX. Cable is adjusted same.

No, cables don't stretch at least not on mine(always checking spec)vipers
were just lean from the factory.
i would set em to 19-20mm and go from there,check consumption if not
happy and seems to rich cut back some.

i have 5500 miles on my viper so far with this oil setting. maybe why i haven't had to clean my power valves??!!! buds '02 viper is also the same with about the same mileage. we used the same amount of oil.
i will check tonight on both sleds the oil cable setting. looking at all the posts on bearing failures, might just have to richen her up. yamalube is cheap.
