I have posted here several times trying to solve my electrical problems. The scenario was I rode it, everything was fine, shut if off, and the next day no spark to any of the 3 cylinders. Nothing.
Swapped ignition switches, no spark. Put the original switch back in, checked it for continuity, no spark. Unplugged the kill switch, no spark. Went on this site looking for advice.....most common comment was check the wiring harness under the motor.
So....I took the pipes off, and took it to my mechanic. He pulled the wiring harness out completely, went through every wire checking continuity, checked the ignition switch, kill switch, stator, and no spark. He rechecked everything. We agreed it must be the CDI box. Got ahold of a used one. Swapped it out. No spark. Figured there is a chance that was a bad box. Got another used one. Put that in. No spark. Went back on this site, read everything I could.
The mechanic went back through everything all over again. Pulled the stator out. Checked it. It read good. Pulled the harness. No issues. Checked the stator again and IT READ BAD. Checked his meter because he couldn't believe his eyes, and re-checked the stator. It read GOOD.
He talked to some Yamaha mechanics at a dealer. They figured stator. Bought a new stator ($240) Took it to the mechanic last night. He said he would put the new one in, the next morning and call me.
Here is where it gets interesting. In the morning, he took the new one out of the box and tested it. Fine. He took the old one to test it for comparison sake, and no continuity. None. Rechecked it, and no continuity.
So....here is what it boiled down to. The old stator was testing good when it was in the shop where it was 60 plus degrees. On and off the sled it tested good when it was in the heated shop. But when he left it out overnight where the temp was only 35 degrees, and tested it this morning,it tested bad. That's right. TEMPERATURE DEPENDENT. Tests good when it is warm, and open when it is cold. Not exactly the type of component you want in your sled.
The mechanic installed the new stator, 3 sparks, and the machine now runs. He swapped out the other CDI boxes and they all work as well (so if you need a spare, get ahold of me I have one to sell and am keeping one for a spare for myself).
I know there is another post just beneath mine with a guy in a similiar situation, but I didn't want to steal his thread. Hopefully I can save someone some frustration by relating this experience.

very much appreciated for posting how you solved a problem. All too often people solve the problem and don't come back to say what it was in the end. These threads are very useful. Good job on being so persistent.

That's awesome that you got it fixed! I never heard of a temperature dependent stator before, but I have now.
It seems to me Yamahas ,as good as they are, have more stator issues than any other brand.

vibration, heat, then cooling, are culprits with an electrical winding...

In my excitement to report it now runs, I forgot to add that the stator looks just fine physically with no discoloration, burnt appearance or anything like that.
I guess a weird test would be to bring it in the house where it's warm and test it, then put it in the freezer overnight and test it again. Hey, it might sound weird on paper, but it happened to me something just like that - over 60 degrees and then down near freezing.
I want to thank you guys again for telling me what to test and what to look for. It narrowed it down considerably.

friend of mine is just getting his replaced on his wife's 99 -600SX and it did the exact same thing. when in the heated shop it would start but when he went out for a ride and shut it off, it wouldn't restart. he tried everything you did and he finally took it to the dealer it is the stator as well. it's going to cost him $345 just for the stator plus the installation.

Wish I would have read here first about starting in the heated garage but not in the cold. It broke on the 2nd day of a week's trip and I came home 5 days early.
