I like it, I could see rear suspensions heading in this direction.
An interesting by-product of this design is how low the rear grab bar is located.
This will make lifting the rear end out of a hole that much easier.
I am suprised there isn't more weight savings. A 600 at 459?
The 97' SX700 triple didn't weigh much more that. I'm guessing all that steel tubing in the rear suspension is accounting for a lot of weight.
I would have liked to see a 136" or 141" model as well.

Ya, I wonder what effect this has on the unsprung weight??? maybe 10-15 lbs?

if you click the link, it will take you to the polaris site and you can watch the suspension go through its travel as a guy is riding it. I think its a good design because it looks like there is less "bucking" when you hit bumps. looking at the pivot points, it pivots much more closer to the center of the sled where the majority of the weight is, instead of back behind the seat where it wants to "buck" the sled forward. much more centered design. it may also prove to not only be a "big-bump" suspension because before when shooting down the drag strip you'd stand on the tail to get some bite. with this skid, it looks like you'd be using the mass that sits up under center, where the majority of it is, which will transfer it into the ground for better traction. i'm not saying this is a drag skid, i'm saying that not only does it look like it will take some pounding from rough trails but that it looks like it will hook up nicely when shooting across the lake when you come upon one
It will be intersting to see if it makes it onto their Pro Open sled before the end of the year and gets put to the test.
I aplaud them for trying something new, but still have my reservations about the design. Time will tell.

I have been following the TY 4 stroke thread on this sled. X tgames leaked the intro of the sled accidentally on their site on Friday, and then pulled it off Friday afternoon. The way the rear suspension moves and does not transfer any noticable bumps to the rider is what amazed me. A huge benefit of the rear suspension is the massive rear shock. I bet it would be very hard to get that shock to fade.
Kudos to polaris for reinventing the wheel

Having less sprung mass is huge to the performance of the skid.
It looks like they are using a radiator in the front of the sled vs. heat exchangers underneath, anyone have any more details on that?

I am sure thy have at least 1 HX under the skid or in the front of the tunnel. That looks to be a pretty small radiator in front.

guys there is cooling plates like any other liquid cooled sled, they are covering the full area of the tull I do believe, but not 100% sure on that, but I know there are cooling plates plus the radiator.

looks pretty interesting. kinda ugly, but if it rides well then whatever. could always be covered in a little more tunnel with minimal weight gain. probably open to show off the "newness" of it I would think. cool idea, love to see and feel how it will work

It has a pretty large heat exchanger that runs down the middle of the tunnel. The "radiator" up front appears to be more like a heat exchanger than a radiator, not sure though. The rear suspension appears to work awesome on the video. Only time will tell but considering it's a Polaris I'm sure the suspension will be good. They're known for having the best riding suspension.

Rear skid looks very interesting but it would be very costly if somebody bumped into your rear on the trail.
I think a 800/700/600 carb would be nice to see as an option. All the "cleanfire" motors I have rode are boggy, slow throttle response, smoke a lot, and leave a nice black pit on top of the snow when idling for more then 10 seconds.

Yamaha had better pick up the pace, I overheard alot of negetivity concerning the handleing and feeling of the new 4 strokes this past weekend. We need a 425lb. machine with wind resistance standard, and excellent handling suspension. Ski Doo has it, Polaris has it. Maybe not 425lbs. but close.

But I personally like the fact that the nytro and Apex weigh a bit more for the mere fact that it does not bother me since I am a big guy. IMHO, it keeps the little boys off the big guns Then again, I don't ride the mountains, otherwise I would probably think otherwise.
Lighter is better as long as it is durable. My co worker again told me another story of a wrecked rev rental sled from a little impact. That light weight is ok until you need the durability.... That is one of the reasons I like my Yamahas and Polaris'.

I just know if you are muscling around a 550lb sled for 200 miles you are going to more tired and sore the next day than if you were riding a 425lb sled. Some of the items on the new Yamy's are very volnerable for impact. I am not impressed with either the Nytro or the new Phazer. I do however like the RX1 and Apex. The weight seems to be alot more than my ol heavy 99 SX. I like the looks of the new Polaris suspension. I really like the looks of the new Ski Doo Rev 600. Either way I do not intend to buy any new sled, I will only buy a used sled from the auction. Al
