hard starting srx....

On Monday my 2000 SRX with 1,400 miles sat outside overnight (had been ridden all day Sunday) and the overnight temps were about -10F. It took about 8-10 pulls to get her going.

my 2000 top gun 800 was a bear to start the begining of the winter took 20 to 25 pulls to start no matter what temprature it was but once started for the first time would run all day even after sitting in minus 10 with one pull tryed everything rebuilt fuel pump ,cleaned carbs again .The fix was all in the choke adjustment now it can sit on my trailer or outside overnight and starts within 3 pulls the most the first time after that one pull.

That's good to hear. I'm going to check mine. I wonder if larger pilot jets would help as well? I know many people with the SRX's complain about being lean on the idle circuit causing the high idle hang-up.

And yes I am pushing it through the pump. And by squeezing the bulb a couple times in the off months it keeps the pump from gumming up and going bad. Or at least thats how I percieve whats going on there. I park my sled in an insulated NON heated garage at night and the most I have to pull during the season is 3 times when cold, 1 time when warm. I keep my carbs VERY clean and make sure everything is adjusted perfect.(choke)

the high compression engine makes is a hard start when it's cold. my buddy has a 98 srx and it's a beast to start when it's cold. the compression is so high....that's why..and he always has to put gas down the spark plug holes everything he starts it the first start of the season, otherwise to gas in the plugholes

In extreme cold weather (-25 degrees over night), I had starting issues with all my triple 2 strokes ER and had to pull the plugs then sprayed starter fluid down the sparkplug hole. Amazingly they all started in one or two pulls. no issues the rest of the day. Had used dry gas in the gas tanks and it happened again the next day. Thank god for starter fluid in the trailer !!! Another go to fix.
