With my chain adjusted per spec., should I be able to rotate my secondary +/-
5 or 10 degrees with out moving the track?

If you have reverse, this is normal.

crewchief, does this apply to '06 apex gt models too? 2 guys i know, just bought '06 apex gt's from another member here, and 1 of them makes a clunk noise when coming up to a stop. also, on that one, you can turn the clutch like 20 deg, but the other apex gt, the secondary only rotates like 5 deg. why the other apex so much? the chain is adjusted the same on the both of them. now that i think of it, another buddies '00 700 sx-r w/reverse, has about 20deg of rotation on secondary too, while my '02 viper is like 5 deg. what is going on in the chaincase to give such large amounts of play/rotation on some sleds, but not others. thanks.
The way the Lower gear works with reverse is what causes the 'slop'. It would be much easier to have a look at a reverse chaincase than to try and type it out here, but it boils down to the the way the gear engages the reverse mechanism. If you run across a pic of a reverse gear, I could maybe point out the area on discussion.
