I have two 2001 700 SRX and they did the same thing last night. When you start the sleds up after they sat for a while nothing electrical would work. They ran for 1 to 3 minutes everything would come on and work fine.I think I have seen something about this problem on this site on relays that are above you left foot getting wet causing this problem but could not find it. Can anybody help me find this thread? Thank you.

Do You Think This Relay Should Be Replaced? There Are Two Of The Relays There. Do They Both Work Together Or Is It Gust One? It Was Below Zero Last Night. I Think The Real Cold Must Of Made Both Of Sleds Act Up At The Same Time Or Maby Its There Age . Thank You Mark.

Hey my srx 2001 did the same thing this weekend. I let it run for a few minutes and the lights came on finally. Is this something to be worried about. The sled still ran fine all day.

no its not something to worry about, unless the lights never come on.... problem is water getting into the relay and then it freezes causing the relay to freeze shut. its common if its real real cold out. i've only had it happen once and it was from trailering it when it was -10F(without windchill) on a open trailer.

i would put dialectic grease on all electrical connections first. then wiring connection under seat. grease it, then put shrink wrap over fitting so it does not get wet again. then check main wiring harness and then finally the harness that plugs into the CDI box above your left footwell. i have done all of the above and am currently issue free... "knock on wood."

wiring harness rubb
Ive had the same problem and the guys on here told me to take the relays out and put them on a heat register to dry them out. I did that and I have not had a problem since.

Don't know if this is true or not, but a guy told me that if the sled has been sitting for a while when it starts the lights, speedo won't come on in order to get more voltage to the plugs for a stronger spark. Once it warms up a little, everything comes on and its fine.

Sure but a minute is to long.
I had the same problem this weekend so I'll do what mrviper700 said numurous times in other post.
"take the left side panel off and youll see a white and a blue relay, mark the harness and take the relays in the house and place them on a heat register for a night or 2, they have moisture in them. These are the load control(white) and headlight relay(blue)."

Yamaha replaced mine under warranty since that was an issue with the 01 SRX. I don't know if they'd give you a new one now though. The same relay also caused SRX's to stall when the lights came on because they came on too soon.
Before they changed it, I normally just held it in my hands or restarted a few times. I guess I never realized it would correct itself after a minute.

Just for info. Removed my relay's yesterday. On the SRX it couldn't be easier. No plastic panel to remove. They are in plane view inside left side at knee high. Hanging with a rubber mount. Slides right off. No need to mark either since the connectors are the same color, blue and white.
Similiar problems
I've got a 2000 SRX with a little bit of a different problem. It first started with me losing all lights while going down the trail, 2 mins later the snowmobile just stalled and would not refire. If i pull the relay I can get it to run just fine but then I have no electrical at all (headlights, tailights, dash...) As soon as I plug the relay back it it just dies. Any help??

I'm thinkin you have a wiring harness rub thru, check harness under motor.
