I was sure it was going to be way worse when I pulled the chaincase cover off, the horrible grinding sounds it made!! But all it is, is the bearing on the axle. Luckly all the balls went out the seal nothing in the case.I got the inner race off the axel but not sure how to get the inner race out of the chaincase?
Thanks,

Sorry mean't outer race.
Just read another post about that. Gently heat the outside of the chaincase and the bearing race should fall out with a gentle tap

I was hoping it could be done on the machine?

Can't believe the bearings are going at 3800 miles!!!! Nice dry storage to boot!!!

Heating the case worked really well! The bearing literally fell out.
leave the axle in, just remove the chaincase. loosen tension on the track first.

can I leave the park brake assembly on the case? Can I change if needed the speedo side bearing too?
Thanks

I had that same bearing go out on my '04 Venom also. I changed the gear lube twice a season, and it still went out on me. I talked to several people, and we figured there must of been simply something wrong with the bearing. Do make sure you change that clutch side bearing. I guarantee it's wrecked like mine was. I took the whole chaincase off, I found it was a lot easier to fix everything. Parking break assembly is a pain to deal with.

just disconnect the parking brake cable at the chaincase leaving whole parking brake assembly attached to case.... when you remove the case, take the case, parking brake assembly and brake disc off as a unit... don't drop the shaft key for the brake disc in the belly pan.... tj
as long as its not siezed on real bad you can change it without removing shaft as well. yes, leave the park brake on the case, dont mess with the cable or anything. remove the caliper, and the rotor has to come off as well. look in the tech section, there is a good read, i just dont agree with the park brake removal, i have never had to do this and have done countless shaft/case removals.helix said:can I leave the park brake assembly on the case? 04 Venom common prob I suspect, a tow home problem and it gave no indication it was on the way out just all of a sudden.
Thanks for the input

Boy they get you Canada guys...I just paid 33 last saturday for one. If you change yours, make sure to either order new screws for it or use some loctite on yours. Mine were loose from the last time it was apart and no Loctite was used.

I just had the exact same thing on my Viper with 13,000 miles on it. My outer bearing race is stuck also inner and balls bascally fell out. I will heat the case friday and hope that outer race falls out as I don't want to pull the hole case off! I changed the speedo side last year and checked it and is still good. It pays to stop when you hear bad noises and prevent further damage!
Which bearing are we talking about?
