This is what I have: 2001 SRX stock with the exception of a ZX2 skid, long traveled up front with viper shocks, 1.25" ripsaw clipped at protectors w/144 studs up the middle (and yes, I'm still running 9 tooth drivers and clearance is fine, so , please lets not let this post drift off into another one of those "can't stud a 1.25" rants".)
I've added a 54/42 helix wraped at 60 per the advice of a member. No weight changes or springs or anything else.
Sled has nice low end and excellent midrange, but dies on the speedo at 90 mph. rpms are at 8300-8400. I recently had a guy that is a Yamaha mechanic adjust my valves as a side job at his house. they were just cleaned and set 300 miles ago.
The 90 mph is bugging me. How far off can the speedo be vs. actual speed. It sure doesn't feel like 90 mph.
I recently received a brand new set of 2 speed HC's in a trade. And still have the stock helix. I assume the 1.25" will give me some top end loss. Given what I have what direction should I take to improve top end? HC's, tip weight to the current set-up, different twist, back to stock helix or go with the 8dn-20 set-up? I really don't want to put anymore money into this.
I read somewhere that if my rpms are good then the problem may not be in the clutching and more likely the power-valves. I assume they are set properly but maybe I should check them again.
Thanks for any advice.

The speedo at 90 is a bit off, but wouldn't be too far off.
Check the valves for sure. How loose is your track? It sounds to me like it might be ballooning up and rubbing on your tunnel protectors. That will surely hurt your topend. The ZX2 is also going to hurt your top speed.

My track is actually pretty tight per AD Boivin recommendations on the ZX2. No sag in a heated garage. I have read about many who have had no top end loss with this suspension. Do these rpms look right? Any other suggestions out there?

I have the same skid and track and have not noticed any loss on top end - your RPM's are a tad off - should top out at about 8500 - check your track alignment, clutch alignment, clutch center to center - also, how warm/hot are your clutches after a couple wot runs?

Did you remove your protectors? Notch your track? I know mine is rubbing some but not bad. Maybe I should notch more.

I have an 01 and an 02 - protectors have been removed on the 02 and are still on the 01 - both run the same - you should be able to determine pretty easy if that is the problem just by inspecting your tunnel
Nothing hitting the tunnell, but the track is still rubbing some on the protectors (front).

That will take some top off but something is not right!!!!!! A little or rubbing a lot!!!I have a 600 and a 1.25 ripsaw and sat I was seeing 104 on my gps there was more there if I could of held it and my clutches are still over reving. Maybe track is too tight and you should take a little more off the track!
My thoughts also. Any opinions on clutching with the item I have? H/C's or 8dn setup?

Do you want it to be as fast as possible with a lot of adjusting or do you want to do it and forget about it??? In there lies your answer........
I am happy with everything as it sits short of seeing a top out at 90 mph. It just seems as though something isn't right. If it's that obvious that something is not right, I shouldn't have to resort to just living with it. It's got good mid range, but not so good that I should be loosing that much top end. Hopefully others will chime in here.
Just added a new belt and rpms went up to 8600-8700 and still topping out at 90-91 mph. Should I adjust the twist to 70? How about the HC's?

rpms went up to 8600-8700
is it the same belt (brand/#) youd think the rpms would drop not go up, but hey i'm learning this clutching stuff too, so who knows
Still learning myself!!! Clutches clean? Bushings in good condition? What is your engagement rpm? From standing start and you pin the throttle...straight up to 8500rpm or 82-8300rpm and climbing to 8500rpm? Installed a APEX mono + new predator in my 2002 SRX, lost some topend, still dialing in myself!

I have a 1" Hacksaw and it damn near rubs the protectors so Im sure the 1.25 does especially when ballooned out at high speeds. Going fom a .92 to a 1.25 track will surely hurt top end but 90 mph makes think the track is seriously rubbing into those protectors.
