First off hello! Well here's my story. Went to buy a 99 srx 700 and it developed an engine noise, no big deal. She dropped her price to 400$ and i knew what i was buying! Started the sled briefly and heard a deep engine knock, pulled the jug and found the crank bearing out. Still no big problem, the crank shop said with the low mileage(2609miles) around 300$. So i'll end up rebuilding the whole motor! Great then i know what i have! While i'm in there i'm looking for help in correcting weak or troublesome problems and freeing up any reliable ponies? I run mostly ditches and groomed trails. Did i mention that once it's running it'll be running with all the cats, since artic is less then a mile away? Also the hood came with no decals, i've already painted all acc. orange. Could anyone send me pics of the srx decals so my decale gal can make me up some custom ones? All help is appreciated!

Does this sled have studs?? have the shop check the crank out some '99's
had outa phase truble like the '98's had. use OEM parts, when back running check jetting clean and adjust power valves, check things over.

Rebuild..
When you say rebuild whole motor you meant pistons, rings, crank work, seals etc...because if that's the case its gonna cost more than 300.00. Pistons, piston rings, clips, wrist bearings alone will run you this amount. You can buy a cheap piston kit but like Daman said make sure and use OEM parts. In the classified section a fellow TY'er had 2 new Weisco for 150.00. Just remember if you run weisco's you will need to warm the engine up properly or risk a cold seize as they are a forged unit, stronger than any stock piston will ever be. Read up on this stuff there is plenty of it to go around!!
While the engine is out take the time to fix the wiring that runs under the engine, they're prone to rub through, well 98's were for sure.
Good luck with your sled, a fine running SRX700 runs like a scalded dog.

Thanks for the wiring tip! I'll have them check the crank, most of their work is done on race sleds, so i have no doubt on their work. The track just came in the door an hour ago and it will be studded when it goes on! How many? What was the HP on these machines?? And it will be a reliable rebuild, replace what needs to be. The site is great so far, i already spied those pistons!

I would definitely run wiseco's in that sled. They will give you more power, becasue they are lighter stronger and they are 100% reliable.
I think the 700 was like 140hp. I would add like 168 studs to it, 144 absolute bare minimum.

I would only run oem stuff when putting it back together!!!!! If you do, you will have a hard time melting it down!! Make sure the carbs are squeaky clean and clean adjust those power valves right the first time so you don't have to spend more $$$$. Also...I would stay with stock jetting at the least!!! Leave your airbox stock and leave stock pipes on it, clutch it right start 8200-8500 rpm max!!!! You will be impressed how much she will out last those ditch pickles!!!!!There is a ton of info on this site!!! Good Luck
