Stock 2001 SRX over revving ?

I do apologize for starting a new thread on this subject, I know it has been covered I just can't find an answer to my specific question :)

The SRX will rev up to a little over 9000 rpm when at full thottle on the trails. I have not been able to see what happens on a long run at full thottle to see it the revs will come down.

I am wondering if it is normal to have the engine rev over 9000 rpm at any time ?

any thoughts would appreciated.
 
change the outside rivet for a 4.5 gramm.. make sure u run two 4.5 gram in those weight
 
you want 8500 on top,your over rev;en and loosing HP and over working the motor do as mod said.

run WWW primary spring with 60 wrap on green secondary spring.

Would it be normal to over rev like that if the sled is not getting traction ?
 
going from 3.6 to 4.5 probably isn't going to drop revs 500 rpm.

did you put on a new belt. if your old one is worn a new belt will drop it 500 rpms. saw it happen 2 weeks ago. same thing.
 
My 01 SRX is doing the same thing this year - revving close to 9,000 RPM. I didn't notice this last year. I changed bushings in the primary and secondary and rollers in the primary in the fall (After 21,000 kms, the primary was a little loose). No other changes were made anywhere. The belt was still within spec but worn 1mm so I put in the washers behind the secondary. Still no change (aside from it squealing at idle).

I've been told that if anything, new bushings would lower the RPM.

I started using Blue Marble oil in February of last year. When I read up on it, they mentioned that RPMs could increase because of it. If that's the case, then I would suppose that I'd need to add to the weights. Has anyone witnessed this effect with Blue Marble?

Maybe I should just start with a new belt, as per Thumper1's suggestion. That would sure beat the clutching guessing game I've always stayed away from!
 
My 01 SRX is topping out at 9000 rpm's as well. usualy a new belt will bring the R's down but I only have 1000 miles on this belt. my sled has 8000 miles on it and I wondering if I need a clutch rebuild or something. any idea's?(clutching is stock)
 
daman..why you suggest to use a w-w-w primary. Ihave the stock primary which is y-w-y with 15.6 rollers and 4.5 in each hole.I am now running 51/43 Helix..green spring at 60.My clutches are nice and cool to,but the other day was over-reving a tad to 8600.But it was a mild day,so maybe that factors in to it to. The w-w-w would have the same engagement..right...but would shift out faster.This mean my rpm will drop and by how much then.
We had freezing rain today and driving was nuts..but somehow made it to work and back.The trail are hooped for sure,more rain tonight.Wouldn't you know it -14 and cooler maybe -25 on Sunday and no good snow to ride on.
 
same here blue.....the weather just sucks.......I took days off of work inorder to ride this weekend and I don't know if I am going now!!!!!!!!!!your engagement should be the same but both your spring rate and total force should drop so your rpms would drop!!! But I can't tell you how much!!!!

the spring rate/total force is a little less with the www vs the ywy so shift out should be faster lowering rpm's. i wouldn't worry about 100 rpms you'll
never keep it spot on in every condition.
