wondering how to lesson steering effort on my 96 600xt to make it better for my kids ti ride. thanks for suugestions

You have to clean and grease all the steering parts. This involves taking things apart and not just putting grease in the zerks. It will make a huge difference.
as above, make sure the steering is free lock to lock. jack up the front end and run it through the motions. reduce the ski shock pressure, lenghten limiter straps, if it has steel skis, add plastic skins or replace with some newer style plastic skis. if they are just messing around in a small area, remove wearbars. kids dont care about the ride qualitym its the fun factor!
