i want stronger engine mounts for my 98 vmax xtc. what could i use...viper, srx mounts?
SLP sells (at least they did) a harder rubber compound mount. They will transfer more vibration and noise to the chassis, but racers don't mind this.

You could also add a limit strap between frame and engine.

Good point. If you are having tearing issues you likely have another problem. Broken mount screws, etc.bufalobob said:why???

My son broke his on his Phazer 500 after studding the track. I asked if he had been drag racing but of course he had not. It tore straight through the rubber.
The Phazer 500 uses the old round style which do not have stops and are easier to tear. I have seen numerous tears on Vipers that were ridden hard, but in almost all cases the front engine side bracket had sheared a bolt off. Easy fix to this was to install the SRX bracket. The Yamaha torque limiter for an SRX is a great addition too. I have seen a number of the button style torque limiters break off so wouldn't use those. Yamaha spec'd the clutch alignment for the Viper a little off to allow for engine flex under load. Guess which part is flexing - yup the motor mount. I personally wouldn't use the harder mounts except for racing. I would however make sure the bulkhead to tunnel is tight, and the engine brackets, and mounts are good. You may want to add a torque limiter.
