02 viper vs. 01 polaris xcsp 800

well i would want to try alot of different things with it i like trail riding but need to be able to be some pretty quick sleds on the river more importantly so whatever you have you could send i want to try a bunch of different set ups are both the primary and secondary clutches stock yamaha clutches?

I was going to stay out of this thread, but there seems to be a lot of strange questions/answers going on.

Adding a heat exchanger and a different head are not really economical ways to win a race. I'm not bashing here, but that would be my last resort. I might recommend those if you were having overheating problems and/or detonation, but that doesn’t appear to be the case.

Focus your attention on reducing drag. Do you have Polaris oversized wheels on it? If not, why not. You can get 6 used ones for less then $50 and they make a huge difference.

Next: What track are you running, does it have any studs and how loose are you running it? If it ratchets, tighten it. If it doesn’t loosen it.

Next: What type of surface are you running on and how long is the race going to be?
If you are running a 3000’ race then it sounds like your clutching is going to be off. If you are running a 660, then you might be ok. Was the gearing changed on the sled when the pipes were added?

Lastly: What do you normally use the sled for? If you use it in the powder, climbing hills (which is how it sounds to be setup) then you probably don’t want to change your gearing and clutching just for this one race. If you bought it with that setup and are now using it on flat land and plan to do a little racing with it then I think it could be setup better. Hard to say without the other info though.

I’m pretty sure my SLP piped Viper would out run that sled (the Poo) in a lake race.

Everyone that replied previously, what would your answer have been if he said it was an 01 SRX he was going to race against the Poo?

Hook, line and sinker! lol

You just answered your own question. Piped Viper has more HP then a stock SRX and it is lighter. Tune it right for the race and you'll have no problems.
