This sled seems to run perfect then one day it wont pull 8500 any more only about 8000. The next day get on it and 8500.? This went back and forth a few times. Took it on an all day ride and it dies at the end of the day, no spark. It missed bad a few times right before this. About 20 min later it starts right up missing a little but limp it to town. Next morning it takes about 30 pulls to start it. Found this so far. Large yellow wire in harnees under motor rubbed and a smaller green one. Tested stator cold at .4 ohms looks good. Pick up coil 188 ohms cold, a little low. Does the harnes under the motor have anything to do with no spark? Any advise on what to check next besides test the stator and pick up coil hot?

Harness
Rubbed thru wires can cause a host of issues...check it, fix it. Good luck.

I think the low rpms and the no spark issue are related. Any thoughts on this? Had a freak low oil light come on about two weeks ago. But the dash gadgets and headlight were ok the nite it died. I believe I have all the trouble spots in the harness looked at. The ground behind the PV servo was a little dirty so I cleaned it. Do you think its safe to put it together for a test ride or am I missing something else?

I would check the stator when it gets hot!!! Also check the coils at high temp too!! That is when you are going to see if it is faulty......Have you check under the hood next to the cdi for a wiring rub through??? I had an issue with my sled when I first got it and it was the crimp connectors on the coils....they would jiggle and then it would not run....just like you turned off the key, look there!!!
The rpms could be clutch bushing related also!!

It sounds electrical to me! I hate these electrical problems...It requires patients and lots of testing.

Check the nipples on the spark plugs. The NGKs used to come with screwon nipple tops. I had one once that was loose and caused an intermittant problem. NGK now makes the BR9ECSs' with solid caps. Just a thought that wasn't mentioned in earlier posts.
