Hi everyone,
I rode in upstate NY this past weekend, and before I went up I filled the gas tank on my 2000 SRX to the very top of the fill neck, gas is much cheaper in NJ! Well I towed the sled the 5-6 hours it took to get there, and the last leg of the trip is 12 miles of a rather difficult rough road, with the trailer bouncing a good amount.
When I got to my destination I smelled gas on the trailer, and I noticed that gas was dripping from the exhaust hole on the bottom of the sled. The gas was not dripping out of the exhaust itself, just around the exhaust hole. It did stop leaking after I stopped driving, and I don't think I lost much gas, and I rode the sled a good amount with no leak. A friend said that I might have filled the gas tank high and it came out the vent pipe on the rough road? Is that possible? Is there a trick to how high I can fill the gas tank? Any ideas?
Thanks,
Zack

vent pipe, don't sweat it !!
No tricks, just don't fill up to the top of the neck. The vent is up high on the tank but by filling up to the neck, you're beyond the height of the vent.

bro just did this on his Doo... Won't "doo" that ever again. Leave space to vent the tank!
You're good to go!

Sounds like the vent. On my 99' SRX I only fill to the neck on the drop leg into the tank any higher and mine will spill some fuel. Don't try and cram every last bit of fuel in it.
I also had once where the vent tube came loose behind the hood from the tube and was leaking fuel from behind the hood as I rode. I smelled like gas the whole trip. Put the overflow hose back on and never had a problem after that.

Yeah the vent tube fitting right at the tank likes to come apart if you mess with very much. I have 2 sleds with the fitting repaired. It will smell like gas whenever it is over half full.

Did I sell it to you? Can't tell where you're from, but the person who bought it is from Ontario, Canada.
