Hi everyone,
I am the proud owner of a 2000 SRX with 1,400 miles. Since the sled was brand new, it was only run on Amsoil Dominator oil (The first owner was an Amsoil dealer). I have continued to use the exact same oil, but is that the best oil for my SRX? Amsoil claims that it is a racing oil, that is "very good" for regular use. I don't know many people that run Dominator oil. Any ideas?

Thanks,
Zack

thats what ive always run in my 02 yamaha viper this oil works great it is expensive but i think its worth it

It just seems that most people run Amsoil Interceptor oil. I was just wondering what oil is better for the power valves.

Thanks,
Zack

just changed my original pistons and rings, 15000KM, amsoil from day 1...

My buddy almost shyt his pants when he saw the condition of all the parts, he bought a case of amsoil next day

The interceptor is made for power valve engines while the dominator is not. i use the interceptor in my 03 viper and never had and bad luck and when you check your power valves they are not gunked up all the time. my 2 cents.

I second that ^^^^^

Hey Zack, If you are going to run AMSOIL I would run the interceptor in your seld because of the power valves. Pretty much the same thing 2003VIPERER said

Interceptor has more detergents additives then Dom to help clean PV's,dom
is a good oil but for a trail sled stick with interceptor..

incorrect....on the back of the dominator bottle, it says that its fine for power valved applications. supercross and motocross racers use that same dominator oil in their dirtbikes, and guess what....they have power valves too. its just fine for power valved applications. its 100% synthetic oil, so it will burn cleaner than the semi-synthetic yamalube. Zack, run it in your srx and have fun. that's the same oil i'll be throwing in my 780bb next year. its going to see nothing but dominator from day 1. been using that dominator in my banshee since day 1 and no issues. also, gives a nice color on the plugs, for easy plug color reading....smells good to. kinda like race gas or something. my buddy uses it in his 440zx rev, and no troubles either. my bro runs it in his '79 440 srx and no trouble. awesome oil. would recommend to anyone.

DOMINATOR IS GREAT OIL. THIS OIL CAN BE PRE-MIXED OR INJECTED. FOR EXTREME HIGH PERFORMANCE APP. INTERCEPTOR ALL YA NEED IN THAT SRX. BESIDES THE PRICE DEFFERENCE. 3:16 (yammie tony)

Well price aside, the Dominator is good for my sled and will not hurt it, correct?

Thanks,
Zack

dominator will work great in your sled, and not hurt a thing. if it were up to me, i would keep running the dominator oil in that thing.

There isn't any 2 stroke oil out there that is going to "hurt" it - in this case, just like everyone has pointed out, the Interceptor has a higher amount of detergent in it specifically for powervalve motors - so it will run cleaner than the Dominator at less money - no one is saying the Dominator is bad oil - for your application, the Interceptor would be the better choice - go to the website and read the comparison!!

...right from the bottom of the page here:

DOMINATOR is recommended for use in high performance stock or modified two-cycle motors, including air or liquid cooled snowmobiles, personal watercraft, motorcycles (Moto X), ATVs, go-carts and outboard motors*. Good for use with coated or non-coated pistons, high-octane racing fuels and exhaust power valves. Compatible with most other two-cycle oils, however, mixing oils should be minimized.

I don't see anyone saying it can't be run in powervalve motors - you are ignoring the fact that the Interceptor has a higher level of detergents making it more effective in keeping the powervalves clean - do you not see the forest for the trees or do you guys just like to argue? - or maybe both!! :dunno:

Dominator can be used with pv yes it says that,BUT interceptor is a little better for pv trail sleds with it's extra det. adds plain and simple guy's
plus it's cheaper.

Dom has a higher film strength(viscosity)more for race(high HP,TQ,RPM's)
applications that is where this oil shines.

you wana use it use it it's not going to hurt a thing but it's not going to protect any better in a trail sled VS interceptor either,,just give ya a lighter wallet.

;)!

I have been using the DOMINATOR from day 1 in all 3 SRX's that i have had, Knock on wood i have never had an engine failure. Power valves need to be inspected and cleaned every 1000 to 1500 KM's, regardless of the oil you are using. I don't think there is an oil that would allow you to put more miles on between cleaning intervals.

Amsoil offers great products. I bought a case on Dominator Oil a while back but never used it in my sleds, it seemed a little thick to me for cold weather oil injection[ended up using it in my 150hp outboard]

My sled Garage:

1972 Moto Ski 440 GP
1979 SRX 440
1981 SRX 440[Mod]
1985 VMAX 540
1995 VMAX 4 [MOD]
1997 Vmax 4 [Trail Mod] + 136" + 2 up seat
1999 SX 600 [Trail Mod] + 144" Viper Shocks
1999 SX 700 [Trail Mod] + 144" Viper Shocks
2002 SRX700 [Trail Mod] + 144" Viper shocks + reverse

Yamaha 2s

I use Yamalube 2s no issues..I have used Interceptor and dominator Amsoil, there both good oils. I ran Yamalube 2r in my Banshee for 4yrs and it had the orginal plugs in it when I sold it. Yamalube is good oil.
In my opinion use a good oil but use a shade more and your 2 stroke will last that much longer.
