Looking into buying an 04 viper. Would anyone know what changes were made on the 04? What is the factory track, and lug size? Suspension upgrades compared with previous years? Any common problems, or were all the bugs worked out by then? Top speed? Any help with any, or all these questions would be much appreciated. I am currently riding a mint, stock, 98 SRX700, I love it but need more suspension, track and travel. Thanx

A friend rides an 04 Black ER. Some upgrades from the 02 03 vipers. Grips and thumb warmer adjustment levers are mounted on the handle bars and show on the digital display like the newer Yams. I don't think there was any changes to the engine etc. The track is a 1""finger style" from the factory, less aggressive suspension compared to the 04 Viper S but it's fine. They added a rear heat exchanger to the 04's as well. The 02 Viper had several "updates/modifications" to different parts of the sled, by 04 Yam had it pretty much figured out. My 02 had over 10,000 miles and the engine was untouched. It was a nice sled but doesn't hold a candle to my 06 Attak. As long as you don't climb on a 4-stroke you won't know what you're missing and you'll enjoy it a lot.

Oh I know the four stroke addiction. if I had another $3000 i would already be ridin an RTX. Next sled perhaps. Thanx for the advice. Any idea how many horses the 04 is?

Drop in and see Gary at Bracebridge Yamaha. He'll have all the facts for you.I bought an 02 Viper ER from Gary and have over 23,000 klm's on it with no rebuilds.Only problem has been a broken jackshaft at the end of last year. The 04 would have to be some sled to be a lot better than the 02.

04 viper has a softer seat and non rebuildable steel bodied shocks which makes for a much better ride.My buddy,s got an 04 and I got an 03.Front shocks valved differently ,also much better.
