I'm working on a 98 srx with a mid to high range bog issue that's intermitant.
Bog as in the thing falls flat on its face and shuts down to anything other then an idle. Like the kill switch is hit.

Last post I put up on this was about stator specs, which checked just fine.
Post is here... http://www.totallyamaha.net/forums/showthread.php?t=57906

I bridged the TORS while this thing was acting up on the lake, and there was no change in the issue. Since I've read a little about the harnesses being a potential problem on these, and it looks like it's a PITA to pull out and physically check I'm trying to test a little before I go that route.

The wires from the TORS at the carb are Black/Yellow and Brown... which are connected to each other at this point. I pulled the CDI and all the connections to it and found the same color wires on two seperate plugs at the CDI. Am I right in assuming I should see a completed circuit between these two with my multimeter? If so and I'm seeing it as open, then I guess it's a harness issue. If so and it's complete, then I'm leaning toward possible CDI.

I could use some feedback here. I hate to just start throwing parts at something, and I'm not positive what's gone on with this thing up to this point since it was used and we just picked it up.

Thanks in advance guys...

don't bother connecting the two wires from the carb rack together, connect the other two together... this will feed the CDI the ground (-12VDC) that it wants to see in a safe operating situation... (if I'm understanding you correctly) ... tj

Thanks for the feedback, but yeah. I have the TORS connections together at the harness not the carb rack. I did verify the switch on the carbs is working, although as it is right now I'm leaving it bypassed until I figure out what is the problem.... :o|

Sure sounds like the old harness rub through, and it's not very hard to check. Pull the pipes, makes a lot more room.

Sure could be, that's my task in the AM once I get outta work.
Guess I'm gonna pull the harness and see what it looks like. Sure seems like a pain looking at it, oh well... I've spent more time trying to not take it out then if I just did in the first place. :ORC

Average Rub Through?

I just pulled the harness from under the engine and from beside the caliper.
Looks like some rub through from under the engine area but only on one wire... solid blue.

I know it does not take much along the lines of a short to ground to cause an issue, but I was expecting something more crazy then this. Anyone that's dealt with this see the same thing, or was yours more damaged?

I'm having the same issue right now as in I have to TORS bypassed and my sled runs fine. I am trying to find the dam problem but no lucky yet. Let us know how you make out?
