I just picked up a 03 viper mtn. It has a bad power bog right off the line, once rpm hit around 5 grand then it goes like it should. It also has a tough time to idle, it idles around 1200-1300, if at all as of now. I have not adjusted the idle and was thinking of cleaning the carbs, I have no idea if the previous owner ever cleaned them?? How big of a "job" is it to clean them? My buddies all want to go riding tomorrow but i dont want to run the sled with it running like this. Another thing that scares me is the oil comsumption or lack of rather. I ran one than of gas thru it and only consumed 5/8 of a quart of oil. Can I adjust the oil pump at the same time too? I pulled out the plugs to check, and they look normal???? Thank you.

look on the FAQ's for carb cleaning 101. I was having similar problems, cleaned the carbs with the help of this step by step how to, and it worked great! not as dificult as I thought it would be.

Its not hard to take apart the carbs to clean them. They probably have a little gunk floating around. As far as the bog, buy 3 shims for the clutch. Adding 2 shims will bump your engagement up 200 rpms. That what was wrong with my 800 max.

Yep, likely clogged pilot jets. Easy job, but pay close attention to detail. Each fuel circuit needs to be clean.

Check the pilot screws closely, and make a note of the jets that are in it. You may want to verify your needle position.

Also check clutch offset and alignment and belt deflection. All in the Tech Pages or sticky posts in the tech forum.
