List your rub through

I had a rub through on my 2 pick up coil wires, that caused the sled to pop and back fire and no power under load. you have to pull silencer and recoil off to see them

I also had a rub through on the pickup coil . Backfiring and no power but sled would start and idle absolutely fine. also handwarmers rubbed through and grounded out on handlebars. This will give you one HELL of a poke when WOT.LOL everyone thought I was crazy when I said the thumbwarmer was pokin me. also the dash lights went out intermitently and tach went whacko. it was a rub through where wires go under the front brace to go up the hood. :o| at 16000 miles seems like i have another rub through every weekend. hopefully got em all now

Just happend last night on my 98 srx700. Low beam goes out and dash lites go dim, like it's shorting. High beam works fine and dash lites are normal when the hi is on.
Moved wire harness where it starts to go under engine and low beam comes back on. hopes it's not to much of a bugger to get the harness out!

Found the issue. It was under the engine, the black wire had rub thru and was shorting on the pan. Not to bad of a job to pull it out. I then re-routed it down along the rightside...now it is easy to get at if need be.

i had the samething.the tach & fuil gauge stop working. pulled the motor to check wires & nothing.my sons 98 i used some parts of his like the tach & other small parts.my buddy got a 98 that he's parting out let me use the stator & NO nothing. i took it over a buddys house he also 98 4 parts.pulled the wire harness of part sled & layed it over the motor & unplug the old & plug in the other & she WORKS talk about P.I.T.A.now need to change fuil sending unit in tank SOB.but shes worth it :yam:

1 inch rub on the white wire in the harness going to the headlight. exposed but 60% copper left. About 10" forward from the take off for the thermo senor. This wire is now routed on the riders right of the motor.

The AC wires look like they burned the casing off right next to the the stator windings. I'm trying to figure out whether this was the cause or the effect of my electrical problems. I've looked at all the places mentioned here. Everything looks good except for the white wire above.

Question for the thread.

If the outer casing looks intact, can I assume the inner wires are OK? Has anyone found otherwise? I'd rather not rip up all the harnesses on a ghost hunt.
