Hey Guys, I had my recently purchased 01 SRX700 out for the second time and seem to be loosing some coolant. The first time out I put on 70 miles and my coolant level in the bootle went down about a 1/4" from full, and the second time out with 65 miles about the same 1/4" from full. I looked over the coolant system really good and no leaks, I have been down this road before with leaks on my SXR, (had to replaced the waterpump seals, and one heat exchanger. The sled seems to perform awsome, with no over heating problems. The second time out with the sled it was 35 degrees out. I was wondering what I can check next and how. Is there a simple way to check if I have a bad or leaking head gasket? Could the system need bleeding?

Air Bubbles usually means head leaking
I just bought another 02 Viper and coolant was going down. Previous owner did not bleed out the rear heat exchanger...thats where my coolant went. Glad that was the case.

like mike said has it been bled,try that also.
Check to see if there is still pressure on rad cap when the sled is completely cold, like overnight after a ride. If there is, that could indicate a head gasket leak.

Well I went out in the garage to bleed the system today, got a little bit of air out of the rear heat exchanger. When I first started the sled I had the radiator cap off and there was a pretty large amout of bubbles in the resivoir, and then when the thermostat open the bubles went away, then at that point I could just see that the coolant was flowing @ idle, as I rev up to 2500-3000 rpms there was a very little bit of bubbles in the resivoir. I tried to smell the exhaust but I could not tell, I'm running amsoil in this sled which is new to me, I have always used S-2 in all my other Yamaha's. Anyboby know what step I can take next to see if I am indeed getting coolant into my cylinders, I was planning a trip this weekend and am not sure what to do.

i would say your alright then,top it off full then run it,keeping an eye on things.

if you had a pressure tester you could test it after i change my coolent and bleed the back cooler my srx coolent never moves and it has 12000 miles on it

Like snowcrazy said, my coolant in mine has never changed levels at all, and i got 10 000 on mine. It could just be air though in the rear exchanger or it was never bled properly, keep an eye on it and you should be good, if your goin on a trip, pour some antifreeze in a bottle or somethin and take it with ya, gives ya some peace of mind

Took the sled out for a small ride (20 miles), every thing seemed good, did'nt seem to loose any coolant. I left the sled out side for 4 0r 5 hours in mid teen temps to really cool off. When I went to check the coolant level I took off the raditor cap and there seemed to be some pressure released (is this normal), and the coolant level is a little higher then the full cold mark I left it at before I went for a cruise. What do you think?? Run it??
are u sure it was pressure release or vaccum pressure ..went it cool down it create vaccum thats why you have a little over flow bottle??

Sounds like things are ok for now,just run it and watch things.

Coolant level will change as the engine warms, it will get higher as things expand thats why cars have over flow bottles. WHen they get hot it dumps the over fill here, when it cools it pulls from the over flow bottle.
