2003 Viper With 5400 Miles Bone Stock Does Not Like To Restart.(engine Is Warm And I Shut Down For Just A Few Minutes) Seems Like I Have To Hold The Throttle Open, Pull 3 To 4 Times,to Get It To Kick And When It Does It Loads Up And Runs On The Rich Side. When Running Off Idle, Does Fine I Do Not Have A Problem Fouling And This Starting Issue Seems The Same In Temps Ranging From The Low Teens To The Mid Thirties. O Ya I Am New To The Yamaha World Of Snowmobiles. I Believe The Jets Are Stock. What Is The Stock Jetting On This Viper.

I have 2 03 Vipers one with elec and one without, i just crack the throttle a little and they start up first time when they are warm.

Yah I was just searching the other day for others with the same problem because it has been happenng to me lately if like I fill up with gas or something it will be hard to start but if I shut it off and start It again right away it will be fine but If I let it sit for a few mins it won't start in under 4-6 pulls which used to be one pull with no throttle, also it starts in 3-4 pulls when cold and idles properly also. I have tried cracking the throttle, holding it half open, wide open, half choke, full choke, about everything I can think of. It is stock other than MBRP race can. I figured the carbs just need to be cleaned.

Your needle and seat are worn and gas is getting into the cylinder and flooding it - starts good when cold, right?

Yes. When Cold Full Choke 2 Pulls Then Idles Find Off Choke After 30 Seconds . Sound Just A Tad Lean Off Idle When Still On The Chilly Side (not Up To Temp) Little Boggish . Plugs Are Perfect After 800 Miles Of Sledding
My viper was a hard start until I cleaned the carbs and set them to stock. I had the same problem as stated by ryanryan. It starts on the first or second pull half a chock.

Buddies SRX 600 just started doing something sort of like this. Starts good when completely cold. After that, it starts hard with warm engine.....but runs fine when it finally starts. This all started happening after one night of riding when he saw the headlight go out for a second and come back on. Turns out he need a new stator.
My viper has been that way since day one. I know of three others that are the same way. Its just the nature of the beast- they wont lite unless the throttle is slightly cracked open.

I disagree. My viper was doing the exact same thing. Cold motor it would start up in two or three pulls, go for a ride stop somewhere (gas a pop trailside break) it would be hard to start. The carbs were spotless, needles / seat were lightly worn. also check your reeds when you have it apart, mine were worn pretty badly, and I had to replace some of the petals.yamirules said:My viper has been that way since day one. The needles and seats will fix your hard start problem, don't get me wrong, just like any yamaha triple you will still need to crack the throttle about 3/16 to get it started but it will start first pull when warm every time now. Best time and $ I ever spent on the sled.
