I have a 98 vmax 600 twin with a blown motor (missing parts as well). I was wondering what other motors easily interchange. Would older v-max motors fit? I see lots of low milage used 96 and older motors for sale but am not sure if they will fit. How about a 500 or other twins?

I have a 97 MM 600 Twin and had that same problem last year. Older 600 will not bolt in because mounts are different. You will need a 97-99 600 twin or even a 500 twin will fit. I believe the crankshaft is the same between the newer and older twins. Good luck finding stuff

The crank bearing on the pto side is different i believe on the 97+ but that can be changed. The mounts as mentioned are also different i would look at getting the correct range if possible.
