I read an old post about someone going back to stock SRX specs from a long Viper shock Long Travel conversion. I've been planning to do it on my 98 and I'm just wondering if there are others who regret the conversion? What are the downsides. Do you noticably loose speed and stability? I ride a combination of groomed trails and open fields, rivers, etc. I love to do some jumping but nothing too major. I'm just wondering if I'm heading in the wrong direction?
Opinions Please.

from what i've heard you'll loose some top end and that corner to corner railing that the srx is known for.

Are you looking at doing just the rear shocks with lifting the stock front shocks.

loose no top end or cornering. once you do it you'll wonder why you didn't do it sooner.

i have both ends done and it is a little more tippy but the ride is so much better i would not change back except for max top speed i bought a sxr700 skid and have long travel shocks in front so i could change it back easy but never have for 4 years now

will not be tippy & will not loose top end if suspension set up properly!
use viper shocks front & rear. send them to pioneer & have bruce revalve & change shafts on front shocks. must use sxr steering & radius rods. also need to add spacer to sway bar. the revs & f sleds will be behind you in the trails.

As Bob says, you'll wonder what took you so long.
I'm using Venture radius and tie rods, Viper shocks with BetheViper brackets, sway bars spacers and a Viper rear skid.
Front ride heigth is about 3/4" higher and rear is about 1 1/2" (more sag than before). Still corners well and I can't tell any difference in top speed but I haven't done back to back testing. Sure is easier on the back and arms.
No regrets.

Sounds good
I was going to start with just the Viper rear shocks and flip the front shock brackets. I like to have a soft ride and weighing 180 lbs I figured it wouldn't end up sitting that much higher than stock when I get it set up. Thanks for the input!

to "flip the brackets" take left upper one off and bolt it on the right-side so it is facing down instead of up.
Very simple and quick to do, raises the front by about 3/4". I did this before buying the longer brackets.
The one listed up above are the ones I bought, nice guy to deal with..... First set had a bracket that was a tad off spec. Emailed the guy and told him what was up, and he had a complete set back to me in 3 days and told me to keep the other set.

so just adding Viper rear shocks would that be a big help? undecided what to do with my front?

Im sure a strong SRX will still pull awesome top end numbers after being raised up, but my 04 Viper didnt corner anywhere near as flat as my 99 SRX. I would also have to strongly believe the increased approach angle of the track due to the longer shocks would reduce a couple mph or so in a side by side comparison. Then again, whats a couple mph when your still going 110+ and have a better ride to boot....

Adding the viper shocks makes a huge difference for bumpy trail conditions. I've long traveld both my sleds, m10 in the 98 srx with longer front brackets and the ohlin ext. from PP(see avatar pic) and ohlin clicker long travel shocks in the 97 sx with viper shocks up front. 1.25 track on both.
No regrets! did loose a tad top end and some of the corner railing, but the ride more than makes up for it!

I totally agree with chazz, I put the viper rear shocks in my sled but then for the front i put the drop brackets in and the extension for my ohlins and holy crap does it sit tall. Yes gets a little tipy but man it is a monster on the sunday afternoon trails. Why did I wait so long to do this mod i have no clue.

Advant-edge motorsports used to make 5/8" rod extensions for the SX/SRX ohlins front shocks. This equals about 1" of travel. I've had them in mine for the past 6-7 years. I'm not sure if they are still in buisness? One thing to keep in mind if you extend your Ohlins front shock rods is that now you are limited to the amount of spring pre-load your threaded adjuster nuts will allow, (you run out of thread). You could make up some aluminum spacer shims to compensate for this.
