look towards the top of the airbox, directly behind it, facing towards the seat direction, there is a fitting w/a hose that comes off the top of the gas tank...that likes to come out. i've worked on 2 sleds this year that were getting bad gas mileage, and it turned out to be that hose/fiting poping off....thus just letting fuel out like crazy. check that hose/fiting.

isnt that disgustingly low milage either way ? i just got back from a trip and think i was getting somewhere around 15 mpg with my 04 viper. or was it just wishful thinking on my part.

We checkd the hose, it was no problem there.
Can it be something with the exhaust valves or maby the carbs?

I get 17 or 18 mpg ( Canadian ) when brisk trail riding, with an M10 and 136"x1.5" Intense. Our gallon is about 10% larger, I think. Tearing around I'm down around 15 mpg.
since it is a mountain viper, gearing is part of it if it is being trail run.

Plus clutching...you can loose ALOT of efficiency with poor clutching.

you didn't mention how it runs. My Dad's Venture (Viper engine) has been burning twice as much gas as normal and not running very well. It was not too noticeable at slow speeds, but it was hard to start and lost rpm if you kept it at the same spot too long. I checked the reeds and each had a broken petal. Try checking that.

My friend says it runs good and starts well. good idle. But he think it smelld a litle bit gasoline sometime. Maby we take the airbox of tomorrow and take a look ant the fuelpump hose.
