Ok now that the clutch is off and I had my welder look at it.

I'm having that repaired and remachined for free to save about $200
but the reason it happened:

and I researched the parts required for replacement and it's about $350 for the arms, weights, bushings, rollers and washers. I pressed the bushings out of the arms so that will save about $9 each, but the rollers and subsequent bushings are shot. Any suggestions on any other way to save a few dollars here, such as removing the weighs or anything. because the most cost effective thing i could think of was to have my friend come over and pull start it like this...

i doubt that clutch will be any where near balanced if you just weld it and put back in
as far as the weights check the classified section seen a bunch on there from factory, to heel clickers, heavy hitters, for that matter there are some guys parting out sleds, might have a whole clutch

wouldnt it have been more time/money effective to just buy a used primary ? i would probably be worried the weld job might throw that out of balance. that things turning almost 9k at wot id be scared of finding out your welder is not as good as he says he is and having a piece of promary barried in my forehead. not a wise place to skimp on in my opinion.

Wow that's ugly looking.

Find a good used primary. Clutch pieces coming through the hood and foot rest at 9000rpm isn't going to be any fun. As for the pieces you need otherwise, a set of rollers is going to be about $75 (new) and the weights will be about the same. Rivets are a couple bucks each. Lots of good used stuff on here that would work and be cheaper. Welding that up is going to cost you a crank or some body parts (yours not the sleds). I've seen good clutches come apart. Can't imagine running one that I knew had structural issues from the get go.

As said before you can buy a used clutch for under well under 200 and bolt and go.....Just my opinion

actually my welder isn't a welder he's a seasoned machinist of 40 some years, it can be tig'd back to normal and then milled back to spec. but i think i will look for a good used clutch, or parts. thanks for the advice

im a machinist by trade , and there is NO way i would machine that for you. that is unless you clean all my fingerprints of it and list me as your benaficiary on you life insurance policy befor you install it. be save and just get a used one.

Definately get a good used one! (or new) Cape vincent hmmm (i'm from kingston ,got a buddy (top gun
on HCS) lives There

oh wow, gotta love kingston and the pubs, how about those windmills on wolfe? i can see them from my garage... anyways yes a weight snapped in half (the bottom one in the picture) and swung up and smashed the clutch i suppose. dont really know when it happened but was sometime in the last 2 weeks when i said 'wow those weights look shot' i wish i had more foresight. either way i can't afford the parts or the clutch at the moment so i think it's a moot point. oh yeah hey jmp, i don't know if you've ever seen it but are you familiar with that sweet new aluminum boat that DEC or the USCG has on the river?

Was this clutch ever apart for maintenance or even blown out. Weights & rollers are worn thru, if they look like that than the whole clutch is probably shot, if it were me i would buy another, just my 2cents.

i clean it, the person that had it before me was an idiot though. buyinga new one is way cheaper, thats theonly reason i am going to go that route, not because i value my life... ebay $240 for clutch, if i have it welded and buy just the arms, weights, rollers, bushings, and washers: $340

It is hard to believe that it even functioned. A whole lot of neglect!
