Oxygenated fuels..ethanol=burn downs??

Thanks

Yep, I think there are some folks who want to think everything is fine but when you go & talk to mechanics in the industry, both small engine & automotive and others, you find out it is a real issue.

Now the only thing I can see is that there must be varying qualities of the fuel across the country & regions & so you get the folks who claim "all is well"
and, good for them. Hope this issue does not "bite them where it hurts" someday.

But, as one who experienced a "breakdown" last year & one who quit running the sled motors "for peak performance" 15 years ago, so the sled was set way conservative, & I am also one who is absolutely ANAL about sled maintanence, I was suspicious of the cuase.
I then started to research the fuel supply based on discussions with a mechanic friend & WOW!!.

Our fuel was mandated to be ONLY E10 a year & half ago & guess when the engine problems started showing up!! Of course we have a real "green govenor" so...there ya go!!

So, one must be educated & of course, ya sure as hell cannot listen to ANY of our fearless leaders who tell us that this is whats good for us!! :o|

Oh & it also effects the mileage on your cars-trucks too. I lost right at 1.5 MPG after the switch in my business rig, no change in habits, just fuel. Hmmmm? Cleaner for the air..but I will burn more..go figure!!

After all this reading what can we do about this for our sleds. I don't want to buy nor can I afford a new sled. What is the answer I keep asking myself. I am now afraid to ride and enjoy my sled because of the melt down that might happen. Anyone have an answer for this?:o| :dunno:

Thanks

Dont panic !!

OOPS...did not want to "panic or scare" anyone.!!

While I do not have what I would call "the answers" the things the guys I ride with are doing is:

A) GOOD grade fuel

B) We are mixing an additive as recommended by the mechanics, in my case I am using a product by Stabil which is supposed to help. Note, this is not the normal Stabil you use for storage. I am using 1.5 oz-fuel tank, 10 gal.
Not sure if it has made a difference other than no probelms this year.
Am sure there are other good additives to combat the ethanol issues.
Not looking to argue what is "the right or best stuff" in this area.

C) Keep the fuel fresh..look at the shelf life they are showing. Here in OR, they state the stuff is good for 6-8 weeks!! So buy fuel where the station is moving the fuel & it should be fresh.

I stored some fuel from last year in a clear container as a curiousity test & you should have seen how it looked from April to Nov...complete color change & wierd smell!! I would not have put it in ANY motor!!!

Dont panic, just be aware & have fun!!
