HEY GUYS I SPENT SOME TIME LOOKING FOR AN ADD ON TEMP GAUGE AND I ENDED UP WITH THIS SET UP FROM MPI AND REALLY LIKE IT. I HAD A PROBLEM WITH REGULAR GAUGE BECAUSE I HAVE A 3 INCH RISER AND WOULD NEVER SEE IT ON THE DASH. SO TAKE A LOOK HOPE THIS HELPS WITH ANYONE LOOKING TO ADD ONE ON!

Thanks I Took The Power From The Blue Brake Light Wire. By Mounting On The Handle Bar Pad It Really Made The Wiring Clean And Easy No Long Run Or Wiring Down The Hood And Obviously You Can Clearly See It. I Will Report Back With Temps Tommorow I Havent Ran It Other Then In The Shop But Tommorow I Can Take It Out. Its Nice To See Your Sled Warm Up And Be Able To Keep An Eye On It As You Ride. Cant Wait..

I always wished yamaha would have put manual gauges on them like some
of the older ski-doos had. i hate lights

Ya No Question Idot Lights Are Named Just That Your An Idiot If You Wait Till It Comes On!!!!!!!!!!! Lol Just Kidding But From What I Have Read I Dont Like The High Range Of Temps That The Light Is Supposed To Come On It Seems Hot To Me. Also Who Knows If The Light Is Really Going To Save You? I Only Had It Come On Once We Got Lost And Ran Down A Plowed Road That Didnt Give Up Any Snow For The Heat Exchangers And After That I Made Up My Mind To Put On The Gauge. As Fancy As The Viper Dash Is I For Sure Should Of Had A Gauge! And Now It Does! ;)!

Hello Guys Too Answer Some Questions I Got The Set Up Complete From Mpi (mountain Performance Inc) And It Cost About 150 Similar To What I Priced For A Autometer Gauge Set Up From The Parts Store For Digiatl Gauge.

I Got A Chance To Run It Today And The Temps Were Good.
I Have An 02 Viper With Rear Cooler
Idle Warm Up Temp Came Up To 130 F And Then Thermosat Opened And Droped To 125 F I Let It Idle For A Little Longer And Took It For A Half Mile Run. Temps Maintained Between 135-140 F . Its About 20f Out And I Have A Light Dusting Of Snow On Packed Trail. So All In All Things Look Good. I Aslo Let It Idle For 5 Min After The Run And She Climed To 170-175 F But As Soon As I Got It Moving It Droped Right Back Down.
Im Really Happy With The Set Easy To Install And Really Easy To Read On The Trail Plus It Has A Clock! Ha Ha

Ran Her Agian Today And The Temps Were The Same Just Thought I Would Let You Know! This Thing Is Sweet

I didn't think letting the engine idle would do that. I always though letting the engine idle after a good run until the rpm's idles back down was good. I guess cruising slowly is the only way to cool down...

Ya Me Too I Guess The Only Way It Can Stay Really Cool Is Snow On The Exchangers! I Was Surprised My Self I Allways Idled My Machine After Running Thinking I Was Doing The Right Thing Too? Guess Not I Don Know!

jdp1under i have the same gauge on my RX1 and love it mine runs around 165 to 170 in good snow. If i am on a raod or let it idle it will go up to 180 to 185 once i hit the snow it drops right back to 165 in a hurry. The best thing i like about the guage is that you can control your slder wear to a point with the temp readings. Once i see it going over 170 i hit the snow. My roomate got one for his SRX and will be installed soon. I see you have yours on your handle bar pad and the wires are visable on the outside. I have a digital air fuel gauge installed in my pad and you could do it to yours to clean it up and make it look better (no wires on the outside). Here's a pick. I ended up making a bracket up and installed it on my hand guards. In the summer i'm going to install it it my handle bar pad along with the A/F guage. The only downside if you don't have a 12v battery it will not charge the internal battery for the clock.

Nice Install I Never Thought To Make A Bracket And Cut It In To The Pad I Think I Will Be At My Brother In Laws Machine Shop To Sort One Out. When You Cut It In To The Pad Did You Have To Sew The Cut Out Or Something So It Doesnt Come Apart? Thanks Looks Good!!!

My LCD is glued to the pad. When you cut the hole in your pad make the hole smaller than the temp guage so you have something for the material on the handle bar pad to stick onto the guage. When i meant bracket here is what i meant. I can't find a pic of mine but if you look in the picture i posted the red box on the left side is glued to a bracket and my temp guage is on the left side on an identical bracket (not shown in this pic) In the summer i will be installing mine in the pad along with the LCD you see in the picture. here is a link from the 4 stroke side with come mounting locations some of the users have done.

What did the setup cost? Can this help us watchout for the "alleged" ethanol mix gas-related burndowns?
if that is a daytona guage ...i paid 80 dollars for mine ....and had my coolant rail drilled and tapped to accept the sensor ........

Thanks For The Link And Input I Think Im Going To Clean It Up I Was Just Anxious To Get It Installed And Running.

Awesome ;)! My rail is off right now so I think I'll do the same thing and add a gauge. Man, I'm making so many upgrades since me engine is out I think blowing up my engine is the best thing that's ever happened to me! :WayCool:

No! No! No! :o| Does just being on the same forum as DING do this to you? :dunno:

Temp gauge battery

I installed the same temp gauge from MPI as JDP1Under. The problem is I do not have electric start or a battery to connect to. The gauge has an internal lithium battery, that can be recharged, but not replaced. How have others dealt with this? The instructions say one can hook it to a regular 9v battery, which will run the back light and charge the internal battery. Any else tackled this issue? Thanks in advance.
