Unique Situation...Help Needed!

So I have a bit of a unique situation.

I live in Nunavut where it is -35 right now without the windchill. Two weeks ago I bought a BRAND NEW 2005 Venture 600 triple. That's right I said brand new. This sled was sitting behind one of the small stores here for several years. It was never started and no gas was ever put in.

I have 150KM and I must admit, it is a pretty nice sled. The first triple I have owned. My previous sleds were an '03 F7, '04 F5 and a '06 F7.

I got my venture for $4200 tax included! They just wanted to get rid of it and as soon as they dropped the price I was all over it.

Now to my questions. I know this is a bit of a unique situation so hopefully you guys can help.

#1 As far as I know the battery has been hooked up the entire time. The electric start doesnt work at all and it won't even turn over. After sitting for 4 years I have assumed the battery is dead and ordered a new one. Even if it was still able to hold a charge it probbaly would have been weak.

Question: What does the battery actually power?

#2 My speedometer is constantly coming and going. It powers up briefly when I start the sled but then goes off. Then back on again and so on and so on. I have checked all connections and all look good.

Question: What is causing this to occur. Does the battery have anything to do with it?

i believe with new battery it will be ok disconect battery and see if speedo stays on battery may be shorted and i think the on off is from reg trying to charge (just guessing )

Hey there, I actually took the battery off today so now nothing is connected. I am still waiting for the new battery to arrive. However, the Speedo is still doing the same thing.

I forgot to post that part.

My neigbor had a dead battery in his viper and the speedo did the same thing. New battery=no more problem.
 
The electric start Yamahas need the battery for the speedo and gauges to work right. It will be fine with a new battery. Maxdlx

ANything else I should know? Most people blow spark plugs all the time here. The gas is pretty crappy. I unhooked my oil hose and am now mixed my gas 50:1. I am running BR9ES plugs.

Are there better plugs I can use? Very frustrating to be blowing plugs all the time.

I get over 1000 miles out of BR9ES plugs on my 600 triple. Just keep changing them until you get the bad gas out.

That's what I am running in it right now. There are currently no Br9es plugs here in town.

Like I said, the gas here is really bad. EVERYONE is blowing plugs. Maybe it is just too cold here the sled can't get warm enough? -30's all the time here and often -50 with the wind.

I decided to unhook the oil line and mix my gas 50:1 instead. A little safer and I burn less oil. I used 4L of oil for 1 tank of gas. That's just nuts. Instead of fooling around with the oil pump I am gonna play it safe.
 
Warm it up real good, don't touch the throttle while warming it up. When you first start it and it starts to shut down use the choke and not the throttle. You won't foul as much plugs. I haven't had problems up here with the cold, Resolute Bay NU.

I will give this a try when warming up to see what happens. Have people been blowing plugs in Resolute?
 
This year is good, last year everyone was blowing pistons due to bad gas. Not many problems here lately this year. Like you said, you guys might have bad gas. :) See how it goes, if your still fouling too much. Probably the gas.
 
Anyone know how the heck I can adjust my shocks? I know on the older machines there was a "Y" tool I could use to adjust. In the tool kit there is nothing like this.

Can anyone help?
