i have a 2001 sxr 700 i just bought with psi pipes and maxx clutch(secondary) i changed the two bi-metal bushings the other day now it seems to turn up more before engaging(5-6 thousand)

wow i have alot to learn on clutching! the primary has a yellow spring ,secondary has black with green tracer(what should the pre load be?) i did add some washers to get my belt riding where it should be that helped a bit

also had 44-32 engraved in helix

Changing anything(belt height washers, spring, helix, etc) in the Secondary should not effect the engagement.
What bushings did you replace, the ones in the Primary? If so, you may have some binding causing the higher engagement.

i have only taken the secondary apart but i did blow a belt not to long ago and think i might have some pieces in the primary?(could this cause it) shes coming apart this afternoon for a cleaning

thanks for reply

sure parts of your belt caught in the primary, could cause the higher engagement, due to binding of the movable sheave, or the foreign matter, is not causing your weights to swing out correctly, to contact the rollers, and then provide shift force.
