1st post.... please be gentle.
I searched, but didn't find if there was any way to determine if the '98 crank update had been done other than running the VIN or just taking the guys word for it (and he doesn't know anyway). Any thoughts or other tricks?
Thanks.

go to your local yamaha dealer and give them the vim # , it should show every bit of work done on it at a yamaha dealership.

they could not tell if mine was done either, i got 1 season and got the vibrations in handlebars, it was only about $600 to repair at the dealer 2 years ago and i removed and installed the motor but check with the dealer anyway

600.00 Doh
I pulled engine down, removed crank and took it in. Cost was 100.00 and it included checking phase and runout.

How many km's on it when you got "the shake"?srxhair said:they could not tell if mine was done either, i got 1 season and got the vibrations in handlebars, it was only about $600 to repair at the dealer 2 years ago and i removed and installed the motor but check with the dealer anyway
This particular 98 has 9000+ km's, so is it safe to assume that the crank has been done?

about 3000 kms its a mountain srx i believe the studded srx's went early but 99% of srx's were done by yamaha, mine only had 2300 kms on it when i got it 3 years ago
