Bought a '01 SX500R on ebay with 1000 miles - thought everything would be fine. Overheated several time in last 50 mile expecially at low speed. Could smell a slight amount of coolant when opening hood to cool - couldn't see any leaks and resevior level no change. Took head off and found a greenish white residue in both exhaust ports. Is this coming from the carb cooling lines, blown head gasket or blown base gasket? What is usually the best bet to look into first?
Thank you very much for your help.

But why would both cylinders be white if only one leak - wouldn't only one cylinder be white inside? Could it be the base gasket or probably not?
