I have a pretty good engine vibration @ idle on my 01 srx (tips of skis and windshield vibrate) (more than my sxr600). It goes away @ 2500-3000 rpms. The mounts look good from what I can see. Is there anything else it could be or I can check, or is it just the nature of the beast?

vibration should not be excessive, carbs may not be insink, I'd look at carbs first.. clutch next.. hope you dont have to go further..

Srx's vibrate at idle, more when its first started cold compared to when its been ridin a while that day. my ski tips vibrate... Thats alot of motor movin down there.

happens on all sleds I think... as soon as you rev above idle it smooths out... these Yami's are beasts! :)

My 2002 SRX does this as well. I thought maybe the crank was out of phase and/or the runout was excessive. I checked the phase with a degree wheel and my dial indicator...phase was perfect and runout was zero. I even swapped the primary clutch off my mod 700sx[it does'nt vibrate as much at idle] and there was no change. My carbs are sync'd, compression even . I have decided that the idle vib's are just the way these engines are. You get kind of spoiled with the silky smooth VMAX4's I guess.

these srxs are pretty smooth IMO aside from the engine vibration, i enjoy having my Sled shake wildly at idle and people ask what i got under the hood, i say its got a HEMI! j/k

They are hot rods.

I AGREE!! THAT SILKY SMOOTH VMAX 4 VIBRATED LIKE THAT YOU BE HAVEING BIG TROUBLE. 3:16 (yammie tony)

My viper's ski handles and handlebars vibrate at idle quite a bit too and I'm not sure what's causing it. mounts seem to check out fine.

I think i started noticing it once I installed the Torque limiter kit a couple of years ago. Anyone else have this problem. Basically my ski handles and handlebars shake when it sits and idles. Seems fairly smooth once I'm running down a trail, so I don't believe it's cluth/drivetrain related.

Didn't know the VMAX4 idles smoother then our SRX. Interesting. Wouldn't mind knowing why.

Basically the Vmax 4 is two 400 twins joined by a commom case and geared to a PTO shaft. They fire[normally] every 90 degrees of rotation...makes for a smooth ride. Even my full mod would hardly ripple a water glass at idle if it was'nt for the sound waves out of the Howlers!

the skis, handlebars and engine at idle have the same natural frequencies - they all resonate at the same frequency, so the engine sets off the others. It's like the tuning fork (how appropriate!) and the musical instrument.

check this out, and lower on the page the example of the Tacoma narrows bridge that collapsed in 1940:
