I have had an 02 Viper 700 since the start of the season. I have noticed the oil useage is very low (ie 100:1 maybe). Today i got around to adjusting the oil cable setting, it was initially around 23-24mm. As i was pulling the on the cable to check my adjustment i noticed the cable wasn't really secured underneath the carbs. On closer inspection i noticed it wasn't right and pulled the airbox and carbs....thanks to this site. Sure enough the cable mounts to a bracket similar to the throttle and choke cables and the bracket is broken in half from whatever the bracket is attached too.

What is this bracket attached too? Is it replacable or is it part of the oil pump and all needs to be replaced?

It looks like i got to pull a motor mount to get at the pump?

Luckily i have been dumping leftover 35:1 premix whenever their is leftover from mixing for the gf's sled.

there's probably two small screws that hold the bracket to the pump, you sure that the bracket broke? not the nut that holds the cable in the bracket just fell off??

ive seen two like this in the last week, i think we are beginning to see why these vipers are having oil problems. this bracket is held onto the pump with 4 little screws.

its definately the bracket. You wouldn't think that would snap, its decent gauge. Really glad i caught that. I have put on 700-800km this year and i think i am lucky to have to only replace this.

I think i will do a carb clean now, but its been running bullet proof and i don't want to ruin that.

is it normal to have some fuel and oil in the bottom of the airbox? I think the bracket was still slightly holding on or was caught on a hose going into the carb and it was then still working somewhat normal.

Can anyone tell me how to remove the oil pump or how to get at it so i can remove and replace the broken oil cable bracket? Can it be done without needing to do clutch aligning etc. If i have to start jacking engine will i need to do a bunch of aligning and other stuff?
