i have a snowmobile VHS video from 1992 and it says there that the I-500 started south of ST.PAUL MN and ran all the way 500miles to canada....... my question is why did they change to ice oval....... or is my video wrong? the video is called "all terrain snowmobiling"

thx guys

I think your asking about two separate races that are named similar. There is the I-500 in Sault Sainte Marie Michigan that is a 1 mile ice oval endurance race in its 41st year as well as a International 500 race from Winnepeg to St.Paul that is a 500 mile cross country style race. Not sure if the International 500 race or a variation of it still exists.

2 different races. You are talking about what is known officially as the Red Lake i-500, the international 500 is here in Sault Ste Marie and is the longest endurance race in the world.
