Anyone catch the z1 turbo cat review on snowtrax? I saw it on the speed channel tonight and it was a love fest. Fastest production sled ever? Best looking f-series sled ever? Great handling more like the ZR series "which is arguably the best handling chassis of all time". I was trying to eat dinner but instead found myself shouting obsenities at the tv. They have a positive and negative write up at the end but it was up for about 3 seconds. I only had time to read " more hp = more fuel consumption" which is a nice way to call it a gas hog when your sponsors are listening.
There was also a segment with the hosts purchasing "late model" sleds and proving that snowmobiling can be affordable. I think we all know better than that! By the time the host purchased his 10 year old xcr 600 and paid trail dues and insurance he had dropped $3300 which was $300 over their budget. Probably should have left a little room for crank bearings. LOL

I saw that too.

They did skirt around the issue of the new turbo cat not actually being as fast as they claim. They said it sure feels fast by the seat of the pants feel. But they sure did not say it was the fastest. ;)

As far as the used sled section, I thought they covered that pretty well. They had a 2500 dollar budget IIRC. The ZL500 was a pretty good buy, and actually a good sled, but they did mention it is thirsty for fuel. I rode with 2 twins that each had a new ZL 500 in 99. Those were actually better than most cats, but still not fast by any means, nor very good on gas compared to the rest of the sleds in our group. They only got like 1 mpg better than the 00 ZL600 in our group, and that bigger zl walked the 500s badly, even with a guy on it that weighed 2x what the ZL twin riders were weighing in at.

Those particular xcr's were actually pretty good reliable sleds. Yeah, they were heavy (and I will say ugly), but they were good sleds.

Apparently this host loves Woody's studs, and bars. He should have thrown a set of stud boy shaper bars on that xcr, it would have turned even better, and had less turning resistance compared to the dually's. Plus he would have not blown his budget as bad.

That is true, it was Cat's claim that it's the fastest production sled not snowtrax. You must have had better luck with your xcr than my brother and I because neither of us made it 3000 miles. The host looked like he was really wrestling it to keep it in the trail, they were talking about these 10 year old sleds like they were a horse and buggy. When they started talking "late model" I was expecting sst sno-jet. I would love to see the host and his $500 snow suit keep that sled in the trail!
