Hey love the forum glad I found it. I own a 97 700sx that has been a great sled, no problems 4300 miles.
Am looking to upgrade to a 03 SXViper that a local Yami dealer has for sale. This sled looks good and has electric start and reverse. I know those add weight but I am not looking for the fastest machine. My plans would be to add an M10 rear skid to the Viper. So my ? is the Viper can be had for $2500 has 3600 miles on it.
Should I buy and add M10 or just add M10 to my 97sx.
Does the Viper add any advantage with bieng newer front end design, and overall sled reliability?
Also my 97 has the Ohlins front shocks, can these be adopted to the 03 Viper? probably too little travel I would amagine.
I really like the electric start and reverse.
Not real familiar with the Viper
Thanks for your help!!

Mark

Buy the viper and add a zx2!

I have 9000 miles on my viper and still runs perfect. These are truely 12000 mile, plus sleds. I would opt for a zx2 skid, since the m10 is out dated and can't take as much abuse, plus zx2 will shave weight, not add it :-)

zx2?

Thanks
What is zx2 skid?
Is that a skid out of a different model sled.

Thanks

Sounds like ZX2 is a great skid, but it takes dollars to buy one. You may be able to find a M10 used for less money. If you go that route check tech pages link. http://www.totallyamaha.com/ExpertX_M10/M-10Install_Pro.htm
It all comes down to how much you are willing to spend and how much time you have to work on your sled. You will have more ski and suspension travel with the Viper which will equal a smoother ride and better bump control. With any suspension, you must set it up for your weight and style of rideing. Do lots of searches on here about suspensions. You will find hours of reading about installs, ride, setup, etc. Good luck and welcome to the site. I must say, I still like that 97SX redhead motor and sled.

just bought a 03 viper with 1900 miles, new track, studded, yami jacket, extra sliders and wear bars and 3 gallons of oil for 2600. there are some good buys out there right now.

any suggestions? wanna run with the srx's
Well if I were you, I would just look for a srx! By the time you buy pipes and do all the other mods just to run with a srx you could just buy a srx and get it over with. I had a stock 02 srx and my buddy had a 02 viper with pipes, clutched, head gasket ect ect ect and on the lake I was still faster than him..If you want to run with srx's than just buy one and you will save your money on all the mods to the viper. Just my 2 cents

i didn't realize that an m-10 weighed over 75lbs.

Wow...never heard that before. Fast is booked all winter long manufacturing and installing those "out dated" skids. and has the best customer service compared to the two, based on feedback from this site and others.

As for abuse, these skids were meant to take it, I know, I've got one it 98 srx and pound it and have never had a issue.

As for weight...the M10 Air(has all Air Shocks)weighs in at a whooping 48lbs! and sells for $1500 which includes mounting kit.

The ZX2 comes in at 56lbs and costs $1500 plus $150 for mounting kit.

The M10 Master(uses Air Shock for the front and a Fox comp in the rear) is 62lbs and sells for $1300 with mounting kit. Not bad for an all alum. and steel skid with Air and Fox Comp shock, to come in at only 6lbs more than the plastic zx2 skid.

For the money and best ride...M10. ;)!
