look at the competition, Yamaha isn't even the most expensive any more lol!! any of the big 2 strokes form everyone else are more than an apex in some cases!! it is crazy, but so is the amount of tech in the new sleds. nothing like they were in the mid 90's at all!
I want to know what the throttle bearing is, is it in the throttle lever itself? sounds like a small thing that will make a big difference

How do you like the mono skid in your SRX????PhatboyC said:Never had the Mono Shock RA suspension ratchet on my SRX and I keep the track looser then Yamaha specs. Is it caused by the increased torque of the 4 strokes?

snocrosser said:Not to change the subject, but whats up with the prices of the new sleds? Its getting crazy what the want for a new sled. They can keep the warranty and knock about $3000 off the price of them!!!
Dealer prices are always quite a bit lower than the MSRP. I remember my SX600R had an MSRP of 6799 in 2001, I payed 5700 in the fall of 2000 for it and Including a whole Yamaha FXR jacket/bib combo and Snoforce Helmet for free. I like the Voucher Idea too, instead of spring ordering a sled.
Well, here is the root of my problem. I ride with many different sleds. Doos, cats and poos. I currently own an 01 SRX and recently sold my viper.
We go on long weekend trips. Most days we like to run wide open trails that can go from smooth to rough throughout the day. My Yamaha' have satisfied. But, every so often, The group likes to head to the back country and play in the powder. Guess what, the Yamis stay home during these trips. Always have.
Now, I understand that my Yamis are somewhat outdated, but I don't see anything in the new lineup that would be an all terrain performer. The weight is not an issue on the trails, but when it comes to powder, it is! Trying to carve and cut with 550lbs would kill me. I've played with my buds 121" XP and it was a pure joy in the powder and could be placed anywhere with the slightest of ease. I fear I'm heading this direction, but don't want to. Sure, the XTX is intended for on/off trail, but I feel I'd really be giving up a lot in the groomed trails and twisties with that huge track.

I rode a buddy's XTX this weekend, and it was a joy to ride. The long track you noticed on the trails (not bad, little push in the corners). Took bumps awesome, cornered nice for not being set up to me, and in the powder it was a blast to carve around on. I did notice the weight when I stopped, but was never a problem. You can't have it all in a sled, but the XTX is awesome all around. Great UP sled.

You can't compare the handling of a 2001 Yami with the nytro or apex. They will stay with any other sled in deep snow off trail until things go vertical, then the weight shows. Even vertical with the right rider they will suprise you.

Never was comparing the SRX with the Nytro or Apex.
I've heard many opinions that differ from yours as far as how those sleds handle in the powder. In comparison to the lighter sleds, they are heavy and harder to handle (in comparison). Just many unbiased opinions I have heard.

Zach, unfortunately you won't ever get a 450 lb FX nytro.
That would put the weight in at like 30 lbs less than most 2 stroke 600s.
Maybe if you replaced every item with a lower weight piece you could get close, but it would be a lot of $$. Titanium, carbon fiber, and all that good stuff is not cheap.
I love the nytro, especially the xtx. If I were to buy a new sled right now, it would probably be an xtx. But the extra weight over what I currently ride is OK. I am a big guy, and muscling a sled around for me is fun.

Border Cut in Rangeley as well as back country in the county. More snow than you can imagine. Lets just say in some areas you could spend the better part of a morning just digging to find ground.
And quite frankly, you don't need much for it to be powder riding.

What is the weight of the lightest Nytro? How about the Apex.
That 440lb. XP was a blast, but not as fun on the trails.

Nice find, Skidoo's 4 stroke is only 21# lighter compared to the Nytro. The REAL ugly weight is the Skidoo 600 renegade, its over 100# heavier wet than its CLAIMED dry weight while there own 4 stroke with the same size gas tank and chassis is only 70# heavier than the claimed dry wieght, where did the extra 30# go?

That 440lb. XP was a blast, but not as fun on the trails.
The nytro SE is the lightest as the attached link someone provided above.
That makes the nytro about 50-70 lbs heavier than most 2 stroke twins over the years.
The Apex is a heavy beast. It weighs in at like near 600 lbs dry, so add a good 100 lbs to that for fuel and other liquids. That is why so many want a lighter apex, and that is also why many think the next apex, or its replacement, will be a 3 cylinder to cut weight.
Even thought he apex may be heavy, it makes a very nice trail sled. Get it stuck and well, you know the drill.
Rangeley, huh?
I always liked that area. I had to go out that way to a rangeley lakes campground when I used to work in Mexico.
To a non Mainer, that last sentence sounded pretty funny I bet.
